President of Al-Quds Open University rewrites history, claims Britain was responsible for 1929 massacres of Jews, not Arabs

The Israeli Maariv website noted that Netanyahu will participate in ceremonies in the Jewish settlement neighborhood of the city, on the edge of the Ibrahimi Mosque (i.e., Cave of the Patriarchs), in which an extremist named Baruch Goldstein committed a massacre of Palestinians in 1994, which took dozens of lives (see note below –Ed.).
President of Al-Quds Open University and expert researcher on Hebron affairs Professor Younes Amr said that all of the facts upon which Netanyahu’s visit is based are false, as he is coming to visit the Ibrahim Mosque that was built by Abraham, the father of monotheism. He noted that this is a solely Islamic site that was occupied in 1967 and divided following the massacre…
Amr added that the fact that Netanyahu is exploiting the 90th anniversary of the Al-Burak Rebellion – during which Israel claims that Jews in Hebron and throughout Palestine were attacked by Palestinians – is unacceptable and contrary to historical truth. He said: ‘The claim is false. What killed the Jews then was the British Mandate (sic., Arabs rioted and killed Jews; the British Mandate punished them for doing so, even executing three Arab murderers who were particularly brutal in their crimes; see note below), and Netanyahu is trying to falsely frame the Palestinians for it.”
Cave of the Patriarchs massacre - Baruch Goldstein, a member of an Israeli far-right movement, opened fire on Muslims praying inside the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, known to Muslims as the "Ibrahimi Mosque," murdering 29 and wounding 125 on Feb. 25, 1994. Following the attack, which was widely condemned by Israeli leaders and Jewish communities abroad, the Israeli government took concrete steps to prevent similar attacks from occurring by dividing the area of worship into Muslim and Jewish sections and designating several extremist movements, including Goldstein’s, as illegal terrorist groups.
Muhammad Jamjoum, Fuad Hijazi, and Ataa Al-Zir “committed particularly brutal murders [of Jews] at Safed and Hebron,” according to the report by British Government to the League of Nations. They were convicted of attacking British soldiers and murdering Jews in the 1929 Hebron Massacre, in which 65 Jews were murdered. They were executed by the British in 1930.
