EU donates 24.5 million euros for salaries and pensions of PA public employees

"The European Union (EU) donated a sum of 24.5 million euros to pay salaries and pensions for the month of August to approximately 56,000 [PA] public employees in the West Bank.

The EU explained in a press release yesterday [Aug. 30, 2019] that 'This donation was funded by the EU and it is part of the direct financial aid to the PA through the [EU] PEGASE mechanism.'

Acting EU Representative Thomas Nicholson said at this opportunity: ‘We are aware of the deep and complicated economic crisis with which the PA is dealing. We expect that the full implementation of the economic and financial agreements between Israel and the PA will continue, including the commitment of the Paris Agreement.'

He added: 'We will continue our financial aid and will remain fully committed to guaranteeing the PA’s financial sustainability and protecting its achievements in building the Palestinian institutions.'"

Paris Agreement – agreement on economic relations between Israel and the PLO, signed in Paris on April 29, 1994. Its main goal is to promote peace by establishing economic relations modeled on EU economic relations.
