Abbas’ advisor: Palestinians are “Canaanites,” Jews have no historical connection to land; mocks US envoy as "ignoramus"

Official PA TV, Friday sermon by Supreme Shari’ah Judge, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Religious Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice Mahmoud Al-Habbash at a mosque in Ramallah

Supreme Shari’ah Judge, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Religious Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice Mahmoud Al-Habbash: "Faithful brothers, O those carrying out Ribat (i.e., religious conflict over land claimed to be Islamic) in Jerusalem and around it, O those continuing to stand firm on this blessed holy land, which Allah determined to be a land of Ribat and Jihad until the Day of Resurrection.

Our enemies, who are always lying in wait for us, do not stop repeating from time to time the saying that is at the very least based on great ignorance and evil intention at the same time: When American Envoy [Jason Greenblatt] says that the settlements in the West Bank are 'Israeli neighborhoods'… and that this land is ‘disputed territory'… Imagine that a time will come that an ignoramus will come to us – who on the scale of men is not worth a mosquito's wing – such as this Greenblatt, and he wants to teach us the principles of law, and how we should speak, and what we should call our land, and how we should deal with our rights…

Even before Abraham, peace be upon him, came [to this land], there were Palestinians here and the Arab Canaanites were here, and they are the ones who welcomed Abraham – not as [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu said, that ‘the Palestinians came from Europe’ (sic., Netanyahu commented on DNA research proving the Philistines came from Europe, thereby showing the Palestinians have no connection to them; see note below –Ed.)… while [Netanyahu] is from that country [Europe], may Allah's name be praised. Even [the Jews'] genetic map confirms that they have no historical connection to this land (sic., genetic research has shown that the Jews originate in the Middle East and Israel). From where did they come, from the Khazar sea? (sic., genetic research has debunked claims that Ashkenazi Jews originate in the Khazars)? From eastern Europe and America? They came and said 'This is our land,' while the owners of the land are foreigners….

Netanyahu, Greenblatt, and [US President Donald] Trump's nonsense will end up on the trash heap of history – it will fall into oblivion."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted three tweets on July 7, 2019, two of them linking to articles on DNA research proving the ancient Philistines were not native to the Middle East, and therefore the Palestinians have no genetic connection to them.

Tweet 1: "A new study of DNA recovered from an ancient Philistine site in the Israeli city of Ashkelon confirms what we know from the Bible – that the origin of the Philistines is in southern Europe."

Tweet 2: "The Bible mentions a place called Caphtor, which is probably modern-day Crete. There's no connection between the ancient Philistines and & the modern Palestinians, whose ancestors came from the Arabian Peninsula to the Land of Israel thousands of years later."

Tweet 3: "The Palestinians' connection to the Land of Israel is nothing compared to the 4,000 year connection that the Jewish people have with the land."
