Abbas: Europe invented Zionism and Israel

"Not everything is to our benefit, but at least a position such as this (i.e., European support for the two-state solution) that comes from the direction of Europe is good. This is something we have not become used to historically, you know. Europe is the one that invented – and this bothers our neighbors a little – it invented Zionism and it invented Israel, let us not fool ourselves. This is what history says, and whoever has a way to refute this – let them try, but [the Europeans] are the ones that invented everything.”
