Fatah: Israel assassinated Arafat; PA is achievement that has been paid by “a river of [Palestinians’] sons' blood in the two intifadas”

The Palestinian National Authority

It goes without saying that all of the agreements and understandings connecting Palestine – represented by the PLO – to the occupation state were established in a defined timeframe, and they will end at the end of the transition period and the achievement of the final resolution. There is no need to present the Israeli legal violations that have emptied these agreements of their content; it is enough for us to remind ourselves and the world around us that the Israeli right-wing that refuses the principle of the two-state solution worked to assassinate [former Israeli Prime Minister] Yitzhak Rabin before the world’s eyes, and it continued this with the assassination of Martyr and symbol [former PLO Chairman and PA President] Yasser Arafat (sic., Palestinian claims that Israel assassinated Arafat have been debunked by medical teams; see note below) following a long siege and also before the world’s eyes.

The national decision made by the Palestinian leadership to stop the activity according to those agreements is recognition of the reality caused by the connection with the occupation state and the settlements, but under no circumstances does that mean that matters will return to what was before the Oslo Accords, as our people has made many achievements in spite of the occupation and despite the defects of those agreements. This means that first of all it is necessary to defend the Palestinian National Authority and its institutions, and also to work to strengthen its roles and develop them so that it will constitute a mechanism of the people in the campaign of resolve and stability in the homeland. The [Palestinian] National Authority, with all of its elements, is an achievement whose price has been paid by our people with a river of its sons' blood in the two intifadas – the first [Intifada] (i.e., Palestinian wave of violence and terror against Israel, approximately 200 Israelis murdered) and the second [Intifada] (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-2005, more than 1,100 Israelis murdered) – and during an ongoing daily struggle against the occupation and the crimes of its army and settlers…

The [Palestinian] Authority is not a favor from anyone, but rather an achievement that has crowned an important historical period from the stages of our people’s struggles, which is moving in the direction of the independent Palestinian state.

* Being released from the connection with the occupation does not mean being released from the means of resolve, but rather preserving them, strengthening them, and developing them *

Secretary of Fatah’s Branch in Poland Dr. Khalil Nazzal”

Yasser Arafat – Founder of Fatah and former chairman of the PLO and PA. During the 1960s, 70s and 80s Arafat was behind numerous terror attacks against Israelis. Although he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 together with then Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and then Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Shimon Peres “for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East" after signing the Oslo Accords peace agreement, Arafat launched a 5-year terror campaign - the second Intifada (2000-2005) – in which more than 1,000 Israelis were murdered. Arafat died of an illness in 2004.
