Headline: “The Mufti of Syria during his meeting with Al-Habbash: Palestine was and still is the central and first and foremost cause of the Arab world and the Islamic world”

“Grand Mufti of the Syrian Arab Republic Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun said that the Palestinian cause serves as a compass in all of the positions that Syria takes, and noted that Syria was targeted (refers to Syrian regime’s claim that the “Arab Spring” was a foreign plot –Ed.) in order to dissuade it from its firm national and pan-Arab positions. He emphasized that the Palestinian cause was and still is the central and first and foremost cause of the Arab world and the Islamic world…

During his meeting with Supreme Shari’ah Judge of Palestine, [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas’] Advisor on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations, [and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Shari'ah Justice] Mahmoud Al-Habbash – which was held yesterday [July 28, 2019] in Damascus, the capital of Syria – Mufti Hassoun praised the position of the Palestinian leadership led by President Mahmoud Abbas, which opposes all of the attempts to perpetuate the occupation…

Al-Habbash emphasized the depth of the special ties between the Palestinian people and the Syrian people throughout history. He emphasized that the Palestinian leadership is very interested in Syria’s security, stability, and territorial unity. Al-Habbash added that maintaining the security and stability of the Arab states, including Syria, is a top Palestinian interest, and that the Palestinian position was and still is in favor of Syria’s territorial unity and against the attempts to harm Syria’s security and stability.

Al-Habbash emphasized the Palestinian leadership’s position, which opposes the American deal of the century (i.e., refers to US President Donald Trump’s as yet unpublished Middle East peace plan), whose goal is to eliminate the Palestinian cause, and primarily the cause of Jerusalem and the cause of the refugees. He added that the State of Palestine has stood by and will always continue to work with Syria, as Syria has always stood by Palestine.”

A picture of the meeting published in the Syrian state news agency SANA on July 28, 2019, shows Grand Mufti of Syria Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Advisor on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations Mahmoud Al-Habbash sitting together with a picture of Syrian President Bashar Assad on the wall behind them.
