PA official: Israel was behind Sabra and Shatila massacres

"Our people in Lebanon marked the 37th anniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacre (see note below –Ed.) yesterday, Friday [Sept. 20, 2019], in a mass rally held at the Al-Ghabiri municipality cultural center.

First Advisor of the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Lebanon Hassan Shashniya participated in the rally on behalf of Ambassador Ashraf Dabbour…

In his speech, Shashniya emphasized that what happened at Sabra and Shatila was a decision made by the political leadership of the occupation state (sic., the massacre was committed by Christian Phalangists), which was represented at the time by terrorist [then Israeli Minister of Defense] Ariel Sharon, in order to break the Palestinian and Lebanese willpower, expel our people, and target the right of return."

Sabra and Shatila are Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. In 1982, during the first Lebanon War, Muslim residents of the camps were massacred by Christian Phalangists. The PA has a longstanding policy of falsely accusing Israel of committing the massacre or actively helping to carry it out.
