EU pays 16.5 million euros to pay PA employees’ salaries

"The European Union (EU) yesterday [Nov. 5, 2019] provided aid in the amount of 16.5 million euros to pay salaries and pensions for the month of October [2019] to over 40,000 civilian [public] employees and pensioners in the West Bank.

This donation came as part of the direct financial aid that the EU grants the PA through the PEGASE mechanism.

EU Acting (sic., Deputy) Representative Thomas Nicholas said: 'The EU continues to grant aid to the PA budget in order to assist in paying the salaries of the public sector employees and the pensions. We support the Palestinian teachers, the health sector employees, and the social workers, all of whom are crucial in providing education, health, and welfare services.’"
