29% of married Palestinian women have been exposed to some kind of violence

[PCBS Social Statistics Department Director Ashraf] Hamdan noted that 29% of the women who are currently married or were married in the past have been exposed to one of the types of violence – psychological, physical, social, or financial. He noted that this rate was 37% in the previous PCBS survey in 2011, and that 18% of the women who are currently married or were married in the past have been exposed to physical violence at least once from their husbands – 12% in the West Bank as opposed to 26% in the Gaza Strip. According to the results of the current survey, Hamdan said: ‘The rate of women who are currently married or were married in the past within the age group of 18-64 who have been exposed to psychological violence from their husbands is 52% as opposed to 59% in the 2011 survey.’”
