The worshippers arrived in their masses from the early morning hours from the areas of the West Bank, crossing military checkpoints, as well as residents of the Palestinian Interior that was occupied in 1948 (i.e., Palestinian term for Israel)…

Jerusalem District Governor Adnan Ghaith said… in a conversation with [the official PA daily] Al-Hayat Al-Jadida: ‘We are calling over and over – and we again call – to come to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque plazas, because this strengthens its status, and the arrival of the worshippers in their masses confirms that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque belongs only to the Muslims.’”
