The image on the left shows a cartoon of an armed Israeli soldier with an Israeli flag on his shoulder sleeve insignia leading off a blindfolded Santa Claus with his hands tied behind his back. Santa Claus is wearing a keffiyeh (Arab headdress), and the soldier has taken his hat. In the upper left is a Christmas garland decoration with a canister labeled “tear gas” in English hanging from it.
The image on the right is a photograph of a Palestinian protester dressed as Santa Claus trying to physically prevent an Israeli soldier from arresting another protester at a violent demonstration near Bethlehem on Dec. 21, 2007.
