PA spreads libel that Israel deliberately flooded the Gaza Strip
Official PA TV Newsreader: "The occupation forces are continuing to open the dams of the rainwater reservoirs towards the [Palestinian] residents' lands in the eastern Southern Districts (i.e., the Gaza Strip), which caused the flooding of extensive areas of agricultural lands and heavy losses
that the farmers sustained."
Israel experienced heavy rains in December 2019 and January 2020, which led to flooding in many areas. The claim that Israel intentionally floods lands in Gaza is a frequently repeated libel. However, Israel has no dams in southern Israel that can be opened.
In 2015, the PA falsely claimed that Israel had deliberately flooded Gaza. Having reported these claims as truth, Al-Jazeera printed a retraction: "Editor's note: An earlier version of this page hosted an article which stated that Israel had, without warning, opened a number of dams, which had resulted in a part of Gaza being flooded. This was false. In southern Israel, there are no dams of the type which can be opened. We apologise for this error." [Feb. 25, 2015]
