PA Foreign Ministry denies accusations of incitement and Antisemitism in PA schoolbooks

Headline: “The [PA] Ministry of Foreign Affairs demands international mobilization for the struggle against the occupation’s targeting of the schools in Jerusalem”

“The [PA] Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, through the State of Palestine’s ambassadors in the states of the world, demanded international mobilization for the struggle against the occupation’s targeting of the schools in occupied Jerusalem…

In a memo it distributed, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that the curricula in the UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) schools, which have been absorbing criticism and condemnations for a long time, are the curricula of the host state in every one of UNRWA’s regions of activity, and therefore, in Jerusalem they are the same curricula of the State of Palestine…

Regarding UNRWA checking the Palestinian curricula, [the ministry] emphasized that ‘the problematic matters’ in the Palestinian curricula are only 3.1%, and that they are mainly connected to the maps that are used and Jerusalem’s status. As for the other ‘problems,’ they are related to gender and have nothing to do with incitement to violence.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Israeli and American claim that the curricula in the UNRWA schools encourage Antisemitism and incite against the occupation are directly connected to the systematic battle that they have been waging against UNRWA and its activities for a while, especially in Jerusalem, as expressing opinions about historical facts does not constitute discourse that incites to hatred and racism.”
