Israel is foreign body implanted by world powers, glorification of ‘lone-wolf’ terror attacks in PA daily op-ed

Excerpt of an op-ed by Yahya Rabah, regular columnist for the official PA daily

“Since the First Zionist Congress was held by [early Zionist leader] Theodor Herzl in 1987 in Basel, Switzerland, on the orders of the world powers that decided to use the Zionist movement as their main tool in redrawing the map of the Middle East, our Palestinian people has entered into many forms of confrontation. It has shown an impressive presence in the confrontation with the Zionist project that Israel established through an international decision, which is the partition resolution that was issued in 1947, and due to which our people’s Nakba (i.e., “the catastrophe,” the Palestinian term for the establishment of the State of Israel) occurred in 1948. Our people was uprooted from its homeland by force of steel and gunfire, and became a refugee people scattered by the winds in all directions, whose name was erased from the map, and whose leadership completely dissipated. The son of the Martyr (Shahid) became an orphan, and anyone who had awareness or strength, or who found some form of resistance to the foreign and abnormal body named Israel, became a persecuted danger. However, this people’s spark of life did not go out for even a moment, regardless of where this people was – whether in refugee camps or in the diaspora on one of the six continents, it was capable of sending a wonderful message saying that the Palestinian people is alive and well, even if its homeland has other fake names. I still remember a number that appeared in the statistics of the main enemy – the State of Israel itself, which has widespread support from other enemies – according to which from 1948 until the occupation of the Gaza Strip in the end of 1956 the Palestinians carried out 11,850 operations of infiltration, sabotage (the Israeli term) [parentheses in source], and attacks! Some of these operations were carried out by Palestinians who were part of the self-sacrificing fighter (Fedayeen) brigades led by Egyptian Intelligence Officer Mustafa Hafez, peace be upon him and may his soul dwell in Paradise, or Palestinians who joined the Syrian army’s military patrol units, but the overwhelming majority of these operations were carried out by Palestinians in the ‘lone wolf’ model– a Palestinian who does not belong to anything other than himself, his Palestinianess, his heritage inherited deep within him due to his Palestinian lineage, and his Palestinian identity and purpose.”

UN Resolution 181 (the UN partition plan for Palestine) was passed by the UN General Assembly in 1947. It called for the partition of the British Mandate of Palestine into separate Jewish and Arab states, with Jerusalem as a separate entity under the rule of a special international body. The Arab state was meant to be comprised of the western Galilee, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, and the remaining territory of the Mandate west of the Jordan River would be the state of Israel - Jordan (known at the time as Transjordan) had already been established in what had been the part of the Mandate that was east of the Jordan River. The resolution was accepted by the Jewish Agency for Palestine, but Arab leaders and governments rejected it, and launched a war to destroy Israel.
