Senior Palestinian officials participate in launch of Ministry of Education booklet promoting Abbas' writings

Official PA TV program Palestine This Morning, on the launch of the booklet Our President – A Role-Model For Us written by 10th and 11th grade students of the El-Bireh High School for Girls about PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, hosting the teacher supervising the book launch Arij Ataya. Among the PA officials participating in the ceremony were General Supervisor of the PA Official Media with the rank of minister Ahmad Assaf, PLO Executive Committee member and Fatah Central Committee member Azzam Al-Ahmad, and PLO Executive Committee Secretary and Fatah Central Committee member Saeb Erekat

PLO Executive Committee Secretary and Fatah Central Committee member Saeb Erekat: "I can say that I have read the work of His Honor [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas. I am honored to have acted as a soldier together with His Honor the [former PLO chairman and PA] president – who is eternally among us – Martyr Yasser Arafat, and that I am acting as a soldier together with His Honor President Mahmoud Abbas."

Director of Education in Ramallah and El-Bireh Bassem Erekat: "As part of the [PA] Ministry of Education’s directives to emphasize the fostering of the patriotism and national and cultural awareness of our boys and girls, the students – in this context this initiative arose, according to which the female students would read the books of His Honor the President that talk about the Palestinian cause, and at the same time they would prepare a book and this book would be printed and distributed in the schools and among the students. This is in order to strengthen the national and cultural awareness among our children. And who better than His Honor the President to talk about the Palestinian cause, to explain its history and past, and to provide our children and the next generation with a political and ideological analysis?"

Official PA TV host: "How were [the chapter titles] chosen in this booklet?"

Teacher supervising the book launch Arij Ataya: "The names are essentially booklets that we had. The students had to understand that we must know the language of the enemy when we are dealing with [the enemy]. These messages existed in most of these books."

Host: "This is a summary of the books."

Arij Ataya: "Right, we are not fighting against something anonymous, and we cannot fight against something anonymous. We must understand the language of the enemy. We must know what he thinks, his opinions, how this Zionist movement was created from the beginning. Also regarding the number of Jewish refugees, as they consider them, who came to us from different areas of the world. What were the circumstances of their arrival, what happened? Jewish figures that are here who object to Israel or the concept called Israel and consider themselves Jewish refugees under the Israeli occupation. All of this is in the books, and we summarized it and the girls read and fully understood the information."

Azzam Al-Ahmad also holds the positions of head of the PLO Department of Arab and Parliamentary Affairs, Fatah Commissioner of National Relations (i.e., between Hamas and Fatah), and Fatah Commissioner for Relations with Lebanon.

Saeb Erekat also holds the role of PLO Chief Negotiator.
