Erekat falsely claims, Israel bound by international law to release terrorists

“PLO Executive Committee Secretary [and Fatah Central Committee member] Saeb Erekat said that the Israeli government’s partial or full annexation of the occupied Palestinian territories necessarily means the elimination of any possibility of achieving a peace agreement between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

During two lectures via [the video conferencing program] Zoom to the organization Forward Thinking in London and to Harvard University in the US, Erekat confirmed that he has conveyed official messages from [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas to many world states, in which he called on them not to enable the Israeli government to execute the apartheid and annexation plan. [Abbas also called] to convene an international peace conference on the basis of international law and the international institutions’ resolutions in order to put an end to the occupation, to realize the independence of the State of Palestine whose capital is East Jerusalem so that it will live securely and peacefully alongside the State of Israel in the 1967 borders, and to resolve all of the permanent agreement issues – and foremost among them the issue of the refugees and prisoners on the basis of the international institutions’ resolutions on the matter…

He called to make the occupation government release the prisoners in accordance with Clause 91 of the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention, which determines that it is necessary to release captives during the spread of epidemics (sic., neither Clause 91 nor Clause 92, which deal with medical issues, speak about releasing prisoners during epidemics).”
