PA rejects UAE’s security needs: “The enemy (i.e., Israel) of my enemy (i.e., Iran) is my (i.e., UAE’s) friend”

PA Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh: "The [PA] government announces full support for the position of the Palestinian leadership and [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas], which rejects the joint statement by America, Israel, and the Emirates regarding normalizing relations between the UAE and the occupation state. Normalizing relations and praying at the Al-Aqsa Mosque while it is under Israeli sovereignty is unacceptable…  The Arab nation’s central enemy is Israel... The saying “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” must not be [implemented] at the national, Arab, or religious level, and it is impossible that some of the Arabs will be allies of the satan of occupation.
Israel-UAE peace agreement (Abraham Accords) – an agreement normalizing diplomatic ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which was announced on Aug. 13, 2020, under the mediation of US President Donald Trump. Pursuant to the agreement, the countries will discuss bilateral cooperation on a number of topics. In exchange for the agreement, Israel agreed to suspend its previously announced plans to apply Israel's civilian law to parts of Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley as per the Trump peace plan. The US announced that “Muslims throughout the world who wish to come in peace to pray at the Al Aqsa Mosque, will now be able to fly to Tel Aviv through Abu Dhabi to do so and will be welcomed.”

PA PM Shtayyeh referred to the saying “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” to criticize the UAE for being friendly with Israel to protect itself from Iran: “The enemy (i.e., Israel) of my enemy (i.e., Iran) is my (i.e., UAE’s) friend”
