PMW demands Facebook stop being a tool for terror
If Facebook chooses to continue to be a platform for terror promotion, PMW will be submitting complaints to the Israeli police, against the organization and its staff based in Israel.
Whenever the Palestinian Authority wants violence and terror their number one choice to disseminate instructions is Facebook. As a result, Facebook is a central link in the PA terror incitement. Palestinian Media Watch has urged Facebook to close down the official Fatah Facebook page, documenting repeatedly that Fatah uses Facebook to openly promote terror. However, in violation of its own Community Guidelines and treating incitement to violence against Israel and Jews differently than other incitement, Facebook is adamant to allow itself to be a platform for Fatah. By insisting on allowing Fatah to use its platform, Facebook is a fundamental and willing partner in Palestinian terror.
Yesterday PMW reported on the latest PA terror promotion amidst the life-threatening rioting in Jerusalem. After Fatah again used Facebook to publicize its call to “raise the level of confrontation” against Israelis, PMW immediately notified Facebook that it continues to be a platform to incite terror and demanded that they close down all the pages that were used by Fatah and Fatah officials to disseminate Fatah’s call for violence. All the following Facebook pages were used to promote this violence:
Fatah’s official page (https://www.facebook.com/officialfateh1965/)
The Facebook page of Fatah Deputy Chairman Mahmoud Al-Aloul (https://m.facebook.com/abujihad1965/);
The Facebook page of the PA Presidential Guard (https://m.facebook.com/PresidentialGuards/);
The Facebook page of Fatah Central Committee member Rawhi Fattouh (https://m.facebook.com/Rawhi-Fattouh-%D8%B1%D9%88%D8%AD%D9%8A-%D9%81%D8%AA%D9%88%D8%AD-292460240800738/);
The Facebook page of Fatah in Hebron (https://www.facebook.com/fateh.hebron/);
The Facebook page of Fatah in Syria (https://www.facebook.com/FatehSyria1965/);
The Facebook page of Fatah’s Shabiba (https://www.facebook.com/shabiba.iug2020/)
The Facebook page of Fatah in the northern Gaza Strip (https://www.facebook.com/fadel.rehan1965.2020/)
The Facebook page of Fatah in Khan El-Sheikh (https://www.facebook.com/%D8%AD%D8%B1%D9%83%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AA%D8%AD%D8%B1%D9%8A%D8%B1-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%88%D8%B7%D9%86%D9%8A-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%81%D9%84%D8%B3%D8%B7%D9%8A%D9%86%D9%8A-%D9%81%D8%AA%D8%AD-%D9%85%D8%AE%D9%8A%D9%85-%D8%AE%D8%A7%D9%86-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B4%D9%8A%D8%AD-453104081734258/)
In addition, PMW has reported on numerous examples of the Fatah Facebook page being used to promote violence in the last few weeks. Fatah’s continued use of Facebook to spread incitement and direct calls to violence is a clear breach of Facebook’s Community Guidelines. [ See more examples at www.palwatch.org]
During this volatile time, PMW has demanded that Facebook stop being a willing partner in the PA terror and violence promotion. If Facebook chooses to allow these terror promotion pages to function, Facebook will be morally and ethically responsible for the continued violence. In addition, PMW warned Facebook:
“If you fail to act as the violence rages and as Fatah and its leaders continue to abuse the Facebook platform to spread violence, we will have no choice but to submit an official complaint to the Israeli police against Facebook in general and key personnel, in particular, for the aiding and abetting the violence.
We expect your quick and decisive response.” [PMW Letter, May 9, 2021]
If Facebook chooses to continue to be a platform for terror promotion, PMW will be submitting complaints to the Israeli police, against the organization and its staff based in Israel.
