Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative asks foreign ambassadors to recognize Palestinian state
"Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative movement, MP Mustafa Barghouti, met with Canadian ambassador Chris Greenshields and Swedish ambassador Axel Wernhoff. MP Mustafa Barghouti said that he suggested that the ambassadors recognize an independent Palestinian state within the June 4th borders, as part of the campaign embarked upon by the [Palestinian National] Initiative for recognition of the Palestinian state.
Barghouti added that the alternative to the fruitless negotiations includes the declaration of the independent Palestinian state on all the territory occupied in 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital; a demand of the Arab countries, the countries of the world, and the [international] institutions to immediately recognize the state on the basis of these borders; and an appeal to the UN General Assembly to recognize the Palestinian state and demand of Israel to end occupation."
