Abbas: We missed the opportunity for a state in 1947
Abbas speaking at the launching of the Palestinian Students’ Aid Fund in Lebanon:
“It is not true that we are presented [with opportunities] and we miss opportunities. We don’t miss opportunities. Perhaps we missed opportunities in the past, and we don’t want to repeat that – the opportunity of 1947 [UN Resolution 181, the Partition Plan], but after that we didn’t miss an opportunity and we are prepared to examine every opportunity for the sake of our nation, for the sake of our people, until stability is achieved for the nation, until the unity of this nation is achieved once again upon our land and it enjoys independence in an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.”
