In its announcement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation for this step, and expressed its hope that it would be the start of recognition by [other] countries on the [South American] continent for the Palestinian state in the ’67 borders. The Ministry expected that in the wake of the Brazilian action a similar action would be taken by other countries in Latin America…
The [Fatah] Foreign Relations Commission added that it had invested unceasing efforts in recent months to stimulate relations between the Palestinian people and the peoples of Latin America, and that Dr. Nabil Shaath, the [Fatah] movement’s Commissioner for Foreign Relations, had received promises, during his tour of several Latin American countries last month, to improve the political positions of some countries of the continent, such that they would recognize the Palestinian state on the ’67 borders.”
