UNICEF praises the PA’s “efforts to ensure children’s rights”

“[PA] Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Al-Malki sent a letter to International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda regarding what is happening to our people in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood [of Jerusalem] and the developments concerning their affairs (r efers to planned eviction of Arabs illegally living in properties owned by Jews who were expelled in the 1948 Israeli War of Independence -Ed.). He demanded that the ICC take a public and clear position regarding the crime that is being committed against them…
Yesterday [May 3, 2021], Minister Al-Malki discussed with UNICEF Regional Director of the Middle East and North Africa Ted Chaiban about the recent severe [Israeli] violations, the deliberate and directing harming of the Palestinian children, and ways of defending them in the shadow of the occupation.
Al-Malki emphasized that it is important to continue to translate the good relations between Palestine and UNICEF [into actions] in such a way as will serve the interests of the Palestinian children…
He mentioned the important role that UNICEF is fulfilling and praised their endless cooperation and vigorous efforts, including documentation of the Israeli occupation’s crimes against the children of Palestine…
Chaiban praised the State of Palestine’s efforts to ensure children’s rights, which was reflected by the submission of its first national report on the UN C onvention on the Rights of the Children, and by the discussion of it before the committee dealing with the matter at the UN headquarters in Geneva. This is despite the many challenges and obstacles that stand in the way of fully realizing the rights of the Palestinian children.”
