PA leader condemns US veto at UN and calls for a Day of Rage
Demonstration following US veto of UN Security Council resolution (Feb. 18, 2011) condemning Israeli settlements as illegal:
“The demonstration (i.e., against Israel’s the security fence) turned into a rally, during which a speech was delivered by Tulkarem District Governor, Talal Dweikat… He called for active participation in the Day of Rage next Friday, to condemn the American position.
Tawfiq Tirawi,a member of the Fatah Central Committee, called for a Day of Rage to be held in the West Bank districts on Friday, against the US position….
[Tirawi:] ‘We shall not agree to the blackmail which the US is applying against us.’
Tirawi emphasized that even if the PA suffers financial distress, it will not compromise on the Palestinian principles, and will protect the people and its national rights. He noted that the nation’s dignity is more important than bread.”
