Fatah cartoon presents Golda Meir expelling Palestinian refugees who later return
Cartoon posted on the official Fatah Facebook page
The upper panel is in black and white indicating that it depicts a historical event, while the bottom panel is in color indicating that it depicts a current event.
In the upper panel, former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir is standing holding an Israeli flag and talking to a group of armed Israeli soldiers; smoke is emitting from the barrel of one soldier’s assault rifle, indicating he recently fired it. A Palestinian father and mother are fleeing with a baby and a child who is carrying a key, which symbolizes “the right of return” of the Palestinian refugees. Golda Meir is saying to the soldiers: “The adults will die and the young will forget” – PMW was unable to find any record of Golda Meir making such a statement.
In the bottom panel Golda Meir is standing holding an Israeli flag next to the same group of soldiers, while a group of Palestinians angrily stride towards them with their fists raised in the air. The Palestinian at the front of the group is wearing a keffiyeh (Arab headdress) around his neck and holding a key. The soldier with the smoking gun is picking his nose while the soldier next to him is smiling and saying: “They won’t forget a thing.” In the bottom center is the PA map of “Palestine” that presents all of Israel as “Palestine” together with the PA areas; the map is drawn in the shape of a Palestinian flag on a pole, with the stripes of the flag on the map. Under the map is written “Palestine” in English.
