Fatah posts cartoon equating Black Lives Matter protesters with Palestinian rioters
Cartoon posted on the official Fatah Facebook page
The cartoon, by Brazilian anti-Israel cartoonist Carlos Latuff, shows a map of the contiguous US with “U.S.” written on it on the left and the PA map of “Palestine” that presents all of Israel as “Palestine” together with the PA areas on the right with “Palestine” written on it. In the US map a white police officer is pointing a handgun at an African American protester wearing a shirt with “BLM” written on it, the acronym of the “Black Lives Matter” protest organization. In the “Palestine” map an Israeli soldier with an Israeli flag on his helmet is pointing an assault rifle at a Palestinian protester wearing a keffiyeh (Arab headdress) around his neck and a Palestinian flag shirt. The African American and the Palestinian are bumping fists in a sign of solidarity. The cartoon refers to the massive riots following the killing of African American citizen George Floyd in the US.
The cartoon refers to the death of African American US citizen George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 25, 2020. Floyd was killed by a white police officer named Derek Chauvin who kneeled on his neck for almost 9 minutes when arresting him, ignoring his pleas that he could not breathe. Following Floyd’s death, violent protests erupted across the US. Officer Chauvin has since been charged with second degree murder and manslaughter.
