Headline: “During ceremony honoring prisoners Nael and Fakhri Barghouti, that was held in their home, the sister of the most veteran prisoner…”
“’He has lived longer inside the occupation’s prisons than outside of them’ – thus Hanan Barghouti described the situation of her brother, prisoner Nael Barghouti, who is now in his 34th year of captivity…
Hanan conveyed her brother Nael’s letter during a ceremony held yesterday by the Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs and the Ramallah and El-Bireh district, honoring prisoners Nael Barghouti and Fakhri Barghouti, as they entered their 34th year of imprisonment (for murder of an Israeli officer in 1978)…
The ceremony was held in the presence of Minister of Prisoners’ Affairs, Issa Karake; Ramallah and El-Bireh district governor, Laila Ghannam; chairman of the Prisoners’ Club, Qadura Fares…
Karake said: ‘True peace is that which is forged with the prisoners and with their families.’…
He added, ‘For the past 35 years our prisoners have been rotting in the prisons so that we could live as a free people…’
He also emphasized that peace has been distanced because our prisoners have not been released, but are dying slowly…
[Ramallah and El-Bireh district governor Laila Ghannam] noted that the district [municipality] participates in these activities on the instructions of President Mahmoud Abbas, who emphasizes that we must all volunteer and devote ourselves for the sake of the freedom of our prisoners and their release from the occupation’s prisons.”
Note: Nael and Fakhri Barghouti were part of a Fatah squad who killed an Israeli officer in 1978.
