It is "illegal" and "contradictory" for Israel to re-arrest 6 escaped Palestinian terrorist prisoners, claims PLO official

Fatah-run Awdah TV host: “At the end of one of our stories, one cannot help but stand with pride over six moons who illuminated the path anew (refers to 6 terrorist prisoners who escaped from Gilboa Prison; see note below -Ed.). …However, fate and circumstances prevented the picture from being complete in the Palestinian space of freedom. (i.e., the escaped terrorists were recaptured – Ed.) Be certain that the attempts will not cease – this is what we have understood from their words.”

Public Relations Manager of the PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs Thaer Shreitah: “First, I want to congratulate all our heroic prisoners, and foremost among them the six prisoners who broke the Israeli security system that the Israeli occupation was proud of at Gilboa Prison. Without any doubt, the six heroic prisoners are subjected to a great attack and a cruel interrogation, whether during the arrest or during the interrogation. And by the way, all these procedures are illegal and contradict the international norms and agreements, since it is illegal that a prisoner who succeeded in escaping imprisonment be brought to trial or be subjected to interrogation in this way – I am speaking about international law and the international agreements, and the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions explicitly required this. But unfortunately, the Israeli occupation is an occupation that does not recognize the international norms, and for this reason we fear for the lives of Ayham [Kamamji] and Munadil [Nafiyat] (i.e., Islamic Jihad terrorists) and hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for their entire status – whether regarding their lives or their health – just as we hold them responsible for the four other prisoners who are still in interrogation.”

Host: “According to international law it is necessary [for Israel] to respect our Palestinian prisoners who are seeking freedom and not rearrest them.”
