Fatah falsely accuses Israel of "bearing direct responsibility" for the Sabra and Shatila massacre, actually committed by Christian Phalangists

Headline: “Fatah: The Sabra and Shatila massacre is a war crime that will remain carved in our people’s memory”

“The Fatah Movement emphasized that the Sabra and Shatila massacre is a war crime for which Israel bears the responsibility as the occupying and ruling power in Lebanon at the time, and because its army, including officers and soldiers, bear direct responsibilitysince it surrounded the two refugee camps, provided cover, and was a partner in committing the massacre that took the lives of thousands of Palestinian refugee children, women, and elderly (sic., Israel was not involved in the massacre committed by Christian Phalangists).

Fatah said this in a statement that was issued by the Fatah Commission of Information and Culture yesterday, Thursday [Sept. 16, 2021], on the 39thanniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacre, which was committed by Lebanese militias with the cooperation and participation of the Israeli occupation army.

Sabra and Shatila are Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. In 1982, during the first Lebanon War, Muslim residents of the camps were massacred by Christian Phalangists. The PA has a longstanding policy of falsely accusing Israel of committing the massacre or actively helping to carry it out.
