“Our Martyrs are heroes and a crown on the heads of our people,” declares PA Governor, lauding dead Palestinian terrorists

Headline: “Ghannam: Loyalty to the Martyrs’ blood and activity to return their bodies are a national duty”

“Today, Thursday [Nov. 25, 2021], Ramallah and El-Bireh District Governor Dr. Laila Ghannam received the families of the Martyrs whose bodies are being held in the occupation’s numbered cemeteries (i.e., Israeli cemeteries for temporary burial of terrorists). Dr. Ghannam emphasized that the activity to return the Martyrs’ bodies is a national, moral, and human duty.

District Governor Ghannam conveyed the blessings of His Honor [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas to the families of the Martyrs and emphasized that he is giving them special attention…

Dr. Ghannam called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and all the human rights organizations to carry out their role and work to return the bodies of the Martyrs to their families, and she emphasized that our Martyrs are heroes and a crown on the heads of our people, and they are not numbers.”

The Cemeteries for Enemy Casualties (numbered cemeteries) are two burial sites maintained by the Israeli army for burying the bodies of enemy soldiers during wartime as well as terrorists. They are fenced and well-marked. Graves have markers instead of gravestones. Burial is temporary, as the bodies are eventually returned to their countries of origin. No ceremony is held. The bodies are buried in numbered caskets after their identities are documented.
