Hamas creates new "official news agency which will serve as the Hamas government’s voice"

“Director of the Information Bureau of the dismissed government run by Hamas in the Gaza StripSalameh Ma’arouf announced on Monday that his government has established an official news agency which will serve as the Hamas government’s voice.

Maarouf told AFP (Agence France Presse): ‘According to the government’s decision and under the supervision of the government’s Information Bureau, the first official [news] agency of the [dismissed] government, named the ‘Al-Rai Palestinian Information Agency’ has been established. It is an important source for news and government activities and for Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh’s statements and speeches …’

Maarouf said that this agency ’Expresses the official government line, like any other official news agency. Nonetheless, it will not necessarily accept the government’s opinion only, since the agency enjoys leeway, so that it will be open to society and the factions, among them of course, the Fatah Movement.’”
