Abbas and PA: “The colonialist world powers used the Jews” to create and “implement colonialist plots in the region”

Nan Jacques Zilberdik  |
  • Mahmoud Abbas: “the colonialist world powers used the Jews in order to execute the great colonialist plan – dismantling the Ottoman Empire and afterwards dismantling the Arab nation”

  • Mahmoud Abbas: Israel’s creation was not “efforts of the Jews themselves, but rather colonialist-theological plans and visions”

  • PA TV: Jewish immigration to Palestine was “a colonialist Zionist plan” … [the Jews] will return to where they came from”

  • PA daily: The US and GB created “the Zionist organization in their laboratories” and established “an entity that they termed ‘Israel’”

  • PA: US and GB created Israel to “implement colonialist plots in the region”

  • Fatah on its anniversary: “We were and still are the obstacle to completing the colonialist project of Palestine”

  • Fatah defines murder of Israelis: “A quality and unprecedented national struggle”

A claim often repeated by the PA is that Jews have no history in the land of Israel and would never have thought to establish a state there. According to this historical revision, the Zionist movement was initiated by the imperialist West as part of its plan to control the Arab world. PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas repeated this allegation at a three-hour lecture on “the history of the Palestinian cause” that he gave to “writers, intellectuals, academics, and civil society leaders”:

“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas presented those present with a concise historical survey that dealt intensively with the injustice caused to the Palestinians when the world powers – and foremost among them the US and Britain – agreed to the theft of the homeland and land and to granting them as a gift to the Zionist movement, which is an inseparable part of the international colonialist movement.”

[Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Dec. 25, 2021]

Dr. Muhammad Al-Masri, who attended Abbas’ lecture, further stated that Abbas had explained that the idea of giving “Palestine” to the Jews was the colonialist powers’ idea and not one that came from the Jews themselves:

“President Mahmoud Abbas was clear when he said that inflaming the dreams of the Jews and realizing these dreams within a political entity was not the fruit of the efforts of the Jews themselves, but rather colonialist-theological plans and visions of colonialist world powers…”

[Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Dec. 25, 2021]

The Dr. Al-Masri summed up Abbas’ conclusion:

“It appears that President Mahmoud Abbas sought to say that the colonialist world powers used the Jews in order to execute the great colonialist plan – dismantling the Ottoman Empire and afterwards dismantling the Arab nation.”

[Ma’an, independent Palestinian news agency, Dec. 25, 2021]

Abbas’ Fatah Movement expressed the same idea when on its anniversary it bragged that “We were and still are the obstacle to completing the colonialist project of Palestine”:

“In a statement [Fatah said] that the goal of our struggle… is to extricate [the historical and natural right to the land of our homeland Palestine] from the colonialist forces who established their advance base and their racist occupying settler colonialist agent ‘Israel.’

Fatah noted that we as a people and the Palestinian National Liberation Movement [Fatah] that took ownership over its [Fatah’s] independent national decision were and still are the main obstacle to completing the colonialist project of the land of Palestine and its spread from [Palestine] to the Arab states.”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 1, 2022]

Fatah continued, glorifying the terror waves as the means with which the colonialist goals were prevented from being realized:

“This is thanks to the sacrifice of our people, who all of its sectors participated in creating a quality and unprecedented national struggle revolution, which constituted the basis for intifadas and popular uprisings such as the great Stone Intifada in 1987 (i.e., Palestinian wave of violence and terror against Israel, approximately 200 Israelis murdered, 1987-1993) and the Al-Aqsa Intifada in 2000 (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-2005, more than 1,100 Israelis murdered)…”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 1, 2022]

Having mentioned the successful terror waves against Israel, Abbas’ Fatah urged Palestinians to continue:

“Fatah called to continue the popular resistance (i.e., term used by Palestinians, which also refers to the use of violence and terror) as a mode of action, to develop its tools and means of struggle, and to expand its scope everywhere that the racist occupation and settlement are found.”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 1, 2022]

In addition to Abbas, several of the regular columnists for his official PA daily have also repeated the allegation that Israel came into being as part of a colonialist plan:

“The US and Great Britain fulfilled the central role in creating the Zionist organization in their laboratories, and in establishing an entity that they termed ‘Israel.’ This was in order to use it to implement colonialist plots in the region, which would begin with taking control over its strategic center and spiritual heart – Palestine.”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, by regular columnist and
Fatah Revolutionary Council member Muwaffaq Matar, Dec. 26, 2021]

A second component of the PA’s narrative is that the Western countries were so burdened by the evil nature of the Jews that they created Israel to get rid of them. Another regular PA daily columnist, Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, reminded readers of this antisemitic PA doctrine: :

“The West has derived benefit from Israel for 80 years. It was created by the capitalist Western colonialists in order to achieve two goals; the first, to get rid of the Jewish problem in their countries, and the second, to realize the West’s colonialist aspirations in the Arab world: to steal its people’s resources, to thwart its development, to prevent the revival of the pan-Arab awakening enterprise, and to settle the historical Crusader accounts with the Arabs and Muslims.”

Yet another of the PA daily’s columnists, Yahya Rabah, has expressed the same idea:

“Israel’s danger lies in the causes of its existence – a myth that has not been proven at all (sic., abundant archaeological evidence has proven ancient Jewish history in Israel), a hybrid idea that was basically disseminated by the colonialist superpowers, and afterwards the strange empire called the US inherited it.”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, May 28, 2021]

Palestinian Media Watch reported recently that official PA TV broadcast a filler between programs, stating that all Jewish immigration to what is today Israel was illegal and carried out according to a “colonialist Zionist plan.”

Official PA TV narrator: The illegal (sic.) immigration of the Jews to Palestine: The beginning of the illegal immigration to Palestine was in 1837... This proves the extent of the historical plot against Palestine many decades before the Nakba (i.e., “the catastrophe,” the establishment of Israel) in 1948… The Jewish immigration to the land of Palestine continued as part of a colonialist Zionist plan led by the world powers at the time… They immigrated to Palestine over many decades while dreaming of establishing a Jewish entity on Palestinian Islamic-Christian Arab land… But history has never let the colonialist remain, and the occupiers have always left in the end. One day they [the Jews] too will return to where they came from.”

[Official PA TV, Oct. 13, 2021]

Jewish immigration in 1837 was legal. Moreover, even though most of the population was exiled by Rome after the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE and the Bar Kochva Rebellion in 135 CE some Jews have always remained in the land of Israel.

The following are longer excerpts of the statements cited above:

Excerpt of an article by Dr. Muhammad Al-Masri, who attended a meeting held by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas at the PA presidential headquarters in Ramallah on Dec. 23, 2021

Headline: “Three hours with the [PA] president”

“[PA] President Mahmoud Abbas presented those present with a concise historical survey, such that dealt intensively with the injustice caused to the Palestinians when the world powers – and foremost among them the US and Britain – agreed to the theft of the homeland and land and to granting them as a gift to the Zionist movement, which is an inseparable part of the international colonialist movement. President Mahmoud Abbas was clear when he said that inflaming the dreams of the Jews and realizing these dreams within a political entity was not the fruit of the efforts of the Jews themselves, but rather colonialist-theological plans and visions of colonialist world powers, as the modern-day Jews are mostly of Tatar origin (sic., genetic research has proven Jews are not the descendants of Tatars or Khazars and that they share a common origin in Israel). They are descendants of dynasties that established a kingdom in the 9th century called ‘the Khazar kingdom.’ In this statement, it appears that President Mahmoud Abbas sought to say that the colonialist world powers used the Jews in order to execute the great colonialist plan – dismantling the Ottoman Empire and afterwards dismantling the Arab nation.”

Excerpt of an editorial by the official PA daily

Headline: “Instilling awareness of the conflict”

“In what can be described without any exaggeration as a first of its kind historic lecture, which was held on Thursday [Dec. 23, 2021] at the [PA] presidential headquarters in the presence of a number of writers, intellectuals, academics, and civil society leaders, [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas spoke at length about the history of the Palestinian cause. For the first time it was taught that this history began in the 9th century with the Khazar state whose residents converted to Judaism purely for self-interests (sic., genetic research has proven Jews are not the descendants of Khazars and that they share a common origin in Israel, debunking claims of mass Khazar conversion). They became the 13th tribe, outside of the Torah that defines a Jew as the offspring of the 12 tribes only (sic., converts are also defined as Jews). This means that the Ashkenazis who control Israel today are the children of this tribe! (sic.) On the basis of this knowledge with its historical roots, the Zionist narrative is exposed – a most false narrative full of dogmatic fabrications that have no connection to Judaism!”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Dec. 26, 2021]

Headline: “Fatah on the anniversary of its Intilaqa: We were and still are the obstacle to completing the colonialist project of Palestine”

“The Fatah Movement… in a statement for the anniversary of the Intilaqa (i.e., the anniversary of “the Launch” of Fatah, counted from its first terror attack against Israel) emphasized Fatah’s basic principles and goals, and that it has been Fatah’s honor to lead them, foremost among them the historical and natural right to the land of our homeland Palestine. Fatah added that the goal of our struggle with the legal means that were agreed upon in the international laws is to extricate this right from the colonialist forces who established their advance base and their racist occupying settler colonialist agent ‘Israel.’ This is because we are fighting to emphasize our cultural national right to liberate our land and our people, and to liberate the world from ‘the Zionist myth’ that was the reason for our people’s Nakba (i.e., “the catastrophe,” Palestinian term for the establishment of the State of Israel)…

Fatah noted that we as a people and the Palestinian National Liberation Movement [Fatah] that took ownership over its [Fatah’s] independent national decision were and still are the main obstacle to completing the colonialist project of the land of Palestine and its spread from [Palestine] to the Arab states. This is thanks to the sacrifice of our people, who all of its sectors participated in creating a quality and unprecedented national struggle revolution, which constituted the basis for intifadas and popular uprisings such as the great Stone Intifada in 1987 (i.e., Palestinian wave of violence and terror against Israel, approximately 200 Israelis murdered, 1987-1993) and the Al-Aqsa Intifada in 2000 (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-2005, more than 1,100 Israelis murdered)…

Fatah called to continue the popular resistance (i.e., term used by Palestinians, which also refers to the use of violence and terror) as a mode of action, to develop its tools and means of struggle, and to expand its scope everywhere that the racist occupation and settlement are found.”
