  • PA PM on terrorists killed during attacks: “The Martyrs are heroes... Their blood is perfume, and their souls hover in Paradise together with the righteous and the prophets. They are adorned with a crown of honor, and their blood waters the anemones that bloom in all of Palestine. ”

  • PA PM stresses: Paying families of dead terrorist “Martyrs” is “a moral commitment” for the PA

  • PA PM: Goal is to destroy Israel - “We’ve defeated all the invaders… we’ll defeat this hated occupation that will leave our land”

Speaking on behalf of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas at the Palestinian Martyrs’ Day ceremony in Ramallah, PA Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh stressed certain key issues in PA ideology that Palestinian Media Watch has continuously exposed:

  • Terrorists – be they imprisoned, released, or dead as “Martyrs” – are “heroes” and role models for PA society
  • Therefore the PA sees it as its duty and “moral commitment” to pay them salaries
  • The ultimate goal for the PA is Israel's destruction – “to defeat the invader”

The following are excerpts of Shtayyeh’s speech emphasizing these ideologies:

Terrorists killed during attacks - “Martyrs” in PA terminology - are “heroes… Their blood is perfume… They are adorned with a crown of honor”:

Martyrdom is a medal of honor, and honor for those who were killed for the sake of God and the homeland. They are the symbol of heroism in dealing with the oppression, subjugation, and occupation. The Martyrs are heroes, and heroes have identifying features. Their blood is perfume, and their souls hover in Paradise together with the righteous and the prophets. They are adorned with a crown of honor, and their blood waters the anemones that bloom in all of Palestine. The heroic Martyrs – where do they stand out? In the battlefield… in the uprisings, and in the intifadas.

All Palestinian terrorists who were killed during their attacks are called Martyrs by the PA, and Martyrdom is presented as the most honorable status achievable in Islam.

PM Shtayyeh’s speech also honored specific terrorist “Martyrs”:

PA Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh: “We stand here on behalf of my brother His Honor [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas]; through him and with him I ask that Allah’s mercies will encompass the souls of our Martyrs on Martyrs’ Day… What is the common denominator between Muhammad Jamjoum, Fuad Hijazi, Ataa Al-Zir, ‘Abu Ibrahim Al-Kabir’, Ahmad Musa Salameh Al-Dalki, Muhammad Al-Dura, Faris Ouda… Khalil Al-Wazir [Abu Jihad], Abu Iyad, and Yasser Arafat? … The common denominator is Palestine and death as a Martyr for the sake of Palestine. Long live the Martyrs, long live their souls, long live Palestine… Generation after generation we will mention them…”

The “Martyrs” honored by name by the PA, include some of the most notorious Palestinian terrorist murderers. Abu Jihad - responsible for the murder of 125; Muhammad Jamjoum, Fuad Hijazi, and Ataa Al-Zir participated in the gruesome massacre of Jews in the Hebron and Safad 1929 and these three stood out according to the British Government because they “committed particularly brutal murders [of Jews] at Safed and Hebron;” Abu Iyad (Salah Khalaf) - planned the murder of 11 Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics. Paying families of dead terrorist “Martyrs” is “a moral commitment” for the PA:

PA Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh: “We stand here on behalf of my brother His Honor [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas]... We pay allowances to 31,000 families of Martyrs. We are proud of this. It is no secret, after all the wars that Israel is waging against us because we are upholding our commitments to the families of the prisoners and the Martyrs. As President Mahmoud Abbas and we in the [PA] government together with him have said: This is not a matter of money, but rather of pride. This is a moral commitment. From our perspective the issue is that we want the Martyrs’ families to live proudly and in dignity.”

PA terror salaries - Under Palestinian Authority law, the PA pays thousands of terrorist prisoners monthly salaries from the day of their arrest. The PA also provides salaries and various grants and benefits to released terrorists. Moreover, the PA pays wounded terrorists and the families of dead terrorist "Martyrs" monthly allowances. Palestinian Media Watch has exposed and documented this PA practice for over a decade, and in doing so has brought about change in and cancellation of Western funding to the PA.

As PMW reported, the Palestinian PM does not hide that the PA’s goal is to destroy Israel: “We’ve defeated all the invaders… we’ll defeat this hated occupation that will leave our land.”

PA Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh: “Our project is the liberation of the land and the people, and we are rooted here. We have defeated the Hyksos, the Romans, the Greeks, the Persians, the Tatars, and the Pharaohs. We have defeated all the invaders who passed through the land of Palestine. On behalf of the Martyrs we will defeat this hated occupation that will leave our land.”

Contrary to Shtayyeh’s claim, the Palestinians have no history prior to the modern period.

The following is more detailed information on the "Martyrs" mentioned by PA PM Shtayyeh in the first video above:

Muhammad Jamjoum, Fuad Hijazi, and Ataa Al-Zir “committed particularly brutal murders [of Jews] at Safed and Hebron,” according to the report by British Government to the League of Nations. They were convicted of attacking British soldiers and murdering Jews in the 1929 Hebron Massacre, in which 65 Jews were murdered. They were executed by the British in 1930.

Ahmad Musa Salameh - Palestinian terrorist known to Palestinians as the “first Martyr of the modern Palestinian revolution.” Salameh was involved in Fatah's first terror attack against Israel on Jan. 1, 1965, which targeted Israel's National Water Carrier. Salameh was killed by Jordanian soldiers following the attack.

Muhammad Al-Dura - 12-year-old Palestinian boy shot and killed after being caught in crossfire when Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli soldiers on Sept. 30, 2000, the second day of the PA terror campaign (the second Intifada, 2000-2005). The PA blamed Israel for the shooting that killed Al-Dura, but investigation by the Israeli army and by both German and French journalists in 2002 and 2004 determined that the bullets shot in his direction could not have been fired from the position of the Israeli forces. Nonetheless the PA used his death as a driving force to incite Palestinians to join in the terror campaign, broadcasting pictures of Al-Dura in the crossfire numerous times daily, and successfully inciting Palestinians to go out and murder Israelis to avenge his alleged killing by Israel. Some have compared the unscrupulous use of his death to successfully motivate the murder of Israelis to the blood libels of the Middle Ages, when blaming deaths of children on Jews led to the murder of thousands of Jews.

Faris Ouda - 14-year-old ‎Palestinian who was presented by PA Chairman Yasser Arafat as a role model for ‎Palestinian children because he sought and achieved death as a "Martyr" ‎in confrontations with Israel during the PA’s 5-year terror campaign. According to his family and the official PA daily, on Nov. 8, ‎‎2000, the day he was killed, before heading towards the areas where ‎Palestinian and Israelis were involved in fighting, Ouda left a wreath ‎around his picture in his room with the words: "Heroic Martyr Faris ‎Ouda." [Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Nov. 30. 2000] The PA daily wrote that Ouda had said to his ‎mother, "Don't be afraid, mother, Martyrdom (Shahada) is sweet, and I’m an atonement for the Al-Aqsa Mosque." [Official PA daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Feb. 3, 2001]

Abu Iyad (Salah Khalaf) - PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat’s deputy, one of the founders of Fatah, and head of the terror organization Black September, a secret branch of Fatah. Attacks he planned include the murder of 11 Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics (Sept. 5, 1972) and the murder of two American diplomats in Sudan (March 1, 1973). It is commonly assumed that his assassin, a former Fatah bodyguard, was sent by the Abu Nidal Organization, a rival Palestinian faction.
