The making of a new terrorist folk hero – The PA at work

Nan Jacques Zilberdik  |

The PA turns sick imprisoned terrorist responsible for the murder of 7 into a role model for Palestinian society

  • “We salute all the noble heroes”
    – Abbas’ advisor

  • “Rise and restore the pride to the gleaming ax”
    - PA TV host recites poem for “hero” Abu Hmeid

  • “Make sounds of joy, O rifle”
    - Fatah and PFLP in honor of murderer, while gun shots are fired in the air

  • “With bullets he writes an inscription of glory”
    - PA TV song

  • “Hero” and “lion”
    - PA TV

  • PA about terror mom:
“Um Nasser Abu Hmeid is the Palestinian woman of the hour. [This is] not only because she nursed her children with the milk of pure heroism, honor, and patriotism until they became unequal knights in the paths of resistance”

  • PA libel: Israel “wants to murder” the imprisoned terrorists, deliberately making their illnesses worse

Nasser Abu Hmeid is a terrorist imprisoned in Israel, serving 7 life sentences for his responsibility for the murder of 7 Israelis. He is also sick with cancer – and right now on the fast track to become a Palestinian folk hero.

As Palestinian Media Watch has exposed for years, the PA cherishes and promotes terrorists as role models for society. And a sick, imprisoned terrorist murderer is the stuff heroes are made of in the PA, only overshadowed by a dead, imprisoned terrorist – a “Martyr.”

Nasser Abu Hmeid could be either, depending on whether he dies of cancer or not while in prison. However, regardless of his fate, the PA has already begun the work to turn him into a folk hero.

In fact, the PA has already turned the entire Abu Hmeid family into celebrities. First and foremost among them is Nasser Abu Hmeid’s mother, Latifa Abu Hmeid, who is admired and honored for simply being the mother of 6 terrorist murderers, 5 of whom are in prison for having murdered 10 Israelis in total, and a 6th terrorist son who died as a “Martyr.” In support of her sick imprisoned son, Nasser Abu Hmeid, the official PA daily praised Latifa Abu Hmeid in an editorial for having “nursed her children with the milk of pure heroism” – i.e., educated them to become terrorist murderers:

“Um Nasser Abu Hmeid is the Palestinian woman of the hour. [This is] not only because she nursed her children with the milk of pure heroism, honor, and patriotism until they became unequal knights in the paths of resistance.”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 12, 2022]

And while “President Mahmoud Abbas received fighter Latifa Abu Hmeid, the mother of heroic prisoner Nasser Abu Hmeid, at the [PA] presidential headquarters in Ramallah,” and “kissed the head of the symbol of resolve and sacrifice,” [Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 16, 2022] the PA’s top religious authority, the Grand Mufti, exemplified the PA’s admiration for terror mom Um Hmeid and her terrorist sons, calling to support the family “and families like it” since they are “a school of sacrifice and resolve”:

“[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Muhammad Hussein… praised prisoner Nasser and the resolve and composure of his family. He emphasized that it is important to support and aid this fighting and firm Palestinian family and Palestinian families like it. He also emphasized that Um Nasser has become a school of sacrifice and resolve… who will be immortalized in history and will remain a symbol of a fighting Palestinian woman who sacrifices that which is precious to her for the sake of freedom and independence.”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 20, 2022]

The official PA daily printed a kind of “CV” for the imprisoned terrorist murderer, stressing that he carried out “acts of heroism” in response to “the calling of the land,” and is “an example”:

Headline: “About Nasser Abu Hmeid”

“If you are a Palestinian who was born in a refugee camp, grew up in a fighting family, with brothers who look like the land that sprouted them, and a special type of culture distinguishes your acts of heroism and the lifestyle that you live, all of this means that you constitute an example like the olive tree, the seam of the [traditional] garb, and the tales of the grandfathers.

His name is Nasser Muhammad Yusuf Abu Hmeid… He joined the Fatah Movement and was one of its members in the first Intifada (i.e., Palestinian wave of violence and terror against Israel, approximately 200 Israelis murdered, 1987-1993), and the masses would personally call out his name at demonstrations. He was arrested in this intifada (i.e., for murder) and released in 1994 (i.e., as part of the Oslo peace process)…

Because the struggle is Nasser’s nature and not something transient, he returned to activity in Fatah’s organizational institutions and became one of the commanders of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades (i.e., Fatah’s military wing) in the West Bank during the second Intifada (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-2005, more than 1,100 Israelis murdered)… On April 22, 2002, he was arrested together with his brothers… and was sentenced to 7 life sentences and another 30 (sic., 50) years…

Nasser Abu Hmeid is one of the fighters who believed that the land is calling to its children and responded to its call without thinking even for a moment about what they would lose from their lives. More than this, they were and remain prepared to sacrifice what remains from their lives for its sake.”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 7, 2022]

Repeating the PA libel that Israel “medically neglects” terrorist prisoners and even “harms them deliberately” the PA launched several demonstrations and rallies in the West Bank in recent weeks, calling for the release of Nasser Abu Hmeid, accusing Israel of intentionally harming the terrorist prisoners in general and terrorist murderer Nasser Abu Hmeid in particular.

At one rally in support for terrorist Abu Hmeid, Director of PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs Abu Bakr repeated the PA libel about medical neglect of prisoners and Israel's alleged wish to “murder them”:

Director of PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs Qadri Abu Bakr: “The prisoners have turned the prisons into schools and universities and they are studying. [The Israelis] don’t want [this], of course... They want to murder them. Therefore, they use this method: When one of [the prisoners] gets sick, they exploit the illness and make it worse so he will die as a Martyr in prison.”

[Official PA TV, Jan. 10, 2022]

Abu Bakr repeats this libel at every opportunity:

Director of PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs Qadri Abu Bakr: “In these days [the Israelis] wanted to get rid of [Abu Hmeid]. They want to kill him with a slow death, and now on the contrary, they decided that they want to kill him quickly (sic.,). Nasser Abu Hmeid caused them suffering, and they want to punish him in this way. They created the illness. They caused him to be in a vegetative state, they want to get rid of him. Nasser Abu Hmeid was sentenced to life, as is known, and the Israelis do not forget this. They think that a good Palestinian is a dead Palestinian, and if they could, they would kill all the prisoners.”

[Facebook page of Fatah-run Awdah TV, Jan. 9, 2022]

Abbas’ presidential office has seconded this, claiming terrorist Abu Hmeid is suffering from cancer due to Israel's alleged “deliberate medical neglect”:

“The [PA] presidential office announced… that [PA] President [Mahmoud] Abbas is closely monitoring the health of sick prisoner Nasser Abu Hmeid, who is in a most severe state of health as a result of deliberate medical neglect by the Israeli occupation authorities… The president is making frantic efforts with all the relevant parties for the immediate release of prisoner Abu Hmeid, and he holds the Israeli occupation government responsible for his life.”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 19, 2022]

It should be noted that Nasser Abu Hmeid is receiving medical care and cancer treatment at Israeli hospitals and was allowed a visit by his mother, as PMW reported.

At a demonstration in Ramallah, Abbas’ advisor and Fatah Central Committee Deputy Secretary Sabri Saidam “saluted” Abu Hmeid and all other terrorists as “noble heroes”:

Fatah Central Committee Deputy Secretary Sabri Saidam: “We salute Nasser Abu Hmeid and all his brothers (i.e., murderers of 10). We salute all the prisoners from all the factions of Palestinian national action. We salute all the heroes, all the noble heroes: Marwan Barghouti (i.e., murderer of 5), Maher Younes, Karim Younes (i.e., murderers of 1), and the list is long.”

[Official PA TV, Jan. 22, 2022]

The PA also honored Abu Hmeid in numerous news items and TV broadcasts, including songs and poems. One PA TV host recited a poem calling Abu Hmeid a “hero,” urging him to “rise and restore the pride to the gleaming ax”:

Official PA TV host: “Listen O people of the revolutionaries, hero Nasser [Abu Hmeid] is dying. Nasser Abu Hmeid, rise! The people has called you. Defy for the sake of your mother... She says: Rise my son, masked lion, rise and restore the pride to the gleaming ax... Your name Nasser is written on the walls of Ashkelon, the prison will be destroyed, the homeland will return to us.”

[Official PA TV, Giants of Endurance, Jan. 13, 2022]

Similarly, the official PA daily printed a cartoon showing Abu Hmeid as a lion:

Text on cartoon: “The masked lion – Nasser Abu Hmeid”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 15, 2022]

Another PA TV reporter praised Abu Hmeid’s terror career in the violent Intifadas, calling him “our tall mountain and our handsome revolutionary”:

Official PA TV reporter: “Honor and the memory of childhood and youth have come out of the memory of the Stone Intifada – and you are its masked hero, and of the Al-Aqsa Intifada –you are a leader in its Brigades (i.e., Fatah’s military wing). Nasser Abu Hmeid – the young lion who nursed from the breast of Khansa of Palestine [Um Nasser Abu Hmeid] and became a revolutionary, resistance member, and fighter – stands firm and free despite the prison... Our tall mountain and our handsome revolutionary, our sick prisoner, rise from your bed for the path is long, and for Palestine [we should sacrifice] the most precious of all.”

recovery for prisoner commander
Nasser Abu Hmeid”

[Official PA TV News, Jan. 14, 2022]

PA TV played a song honoring “heroic” murderer Abu Hmeid:

Lyrics: “Fatah, arise and take pride in yourself
Victorious one, arise, take pride in yourself, and fill your lighters
Heroic Nasser Abu Hmeid
Heroic Nasser Abu Hmeid

Here are the people of Al-Amari [refugee] camp…
Our bullets glitter and shine,
O Nasser, O son of Hmeid,
Nasser the enduring one, gird yourself with endurance, our leader,
Our lighter is full, thus it remains, and so too our weapons are loaded…
O Nasser… bear your wound and your prison with endurance,
The homeland is ours.”

Captions on signs:

“We are with you and will never forget you. Save Nasser Abu Hmeid”
“Freedom and a speedy recovery for prisoner commander Nasser Abu Hmeid”

[Official PA TV, Giants of Endurance, Jan. 6, 2022]

PA TV also broadcast footage from demonstrations supporting Nasser Abu Hmeid, adding a song in his honor, telling listeners that “with bullets he writes an inscription of glory”:

Lyrics: “Nasser Abu Hmeid (i.e., terrorist, responsible for murder of 7),
the loyal one who overcame the prison guard,
with bullets he writes an inscription of glory,
and it attests to his actions. Al-Amari [refugee] camp,
the fortress of the knights,
Nasser Abu Hmeid the hero is the best of its people.
A Fatah member against the lines of fire,
and his bullets are stronger than a cannon.
Nasser the free and the brave, our masked lion.”

[Official PA TV, Giants of Endurance, Jan. 13, 2022]

Abbas’ Fatah has been very vocal in the PA’s campaign for the release of Abu Hmeid and the turning of him into a popular hero. The movement has published songs in his honor and Fatah officials have expressed their admiration and support for him.

Fatah posted a video with photos of Abu Hmeid, and the same song as was broadcast on PA TV, glorifying him:

Lyrics: “Fatah, arise and take pride in yourself
Victorious one, arise, take pride in yourself, and fill your lighters
Heroic Nasser Abu Hmeid
Here are the people of Al-Amari [refugee camp]…
Our bullets glitter and shine,
O Nasser, O son of Hmeid
.”

[Official Fatah Facebook page, Jan. 9, 2022]

At a procession organized by Fatah and the terror organization the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in honor of Abu Hmeid, gun shots were fired in the air, while calls were made for violence: “Make sounds of joy, O rifle”:

Announcer: “Make sounds of joy, O rifle, make sounds of joy, make the whole world hear… Let only the sound of the rifle be heard… Arise, O Nasser Abu Hmeid, arise masked lion of Ramallah, and let all the free people and the whole world know that we will definitely triumph. We will definitely triumph! Victory to the prisoners! Freedom to the prisoners! Healing to the wounded! Mercy to the Martyrs!”

Posted text: “A procession passes through the streets of the Jalazone [refugee] camp in a call by the Fatah Movement and the Popular Front [for the Liberation of Palestine] (PFLP) to support and strengthen prisoner commander Nasser Abu Hmeid (i.e., terrorist, responsible for murder of 7).”

[Official Fatah Facebook page, Jan. 9, 2022]

Fatah in the Gaza Strip has also joined the Nasser Abu Hmeid cult, referring to the murderer as a “masked lion,” stressing his terror activity in the PA terror wave, the Intifada:

Text on post and on screen in video: “‘The masked lion’ Nasser Abu Hmeid
The intifada gave birth to you and the struggle raised you
They educated you in the den of pride and honor, and thus you became the masked lion
You imposed fear on the occupation’s rats…
For 20 years you moved between the ruins of the [prison] cells until the guillotine of medical neglect got you…

[Facebook page of the Fatah Commission of Information and Culture, Jan. 27, 2022]

As can be understood from the examples above, the PA has already made terrorist murderer Nasser Abu Hmeid a hero. And as PMW has already noted, if Abu Hmeid dies – thereby becoming a “Martyr” - the PA will use his death as another opportunity and excuse to promote hatred and incite violence against Israel and Israelis.

The following is additional information on the terrorists mentioned above and longer excerpts of texts cited and additional statements glorifying terrorist murderer Nasser Abu Hmeid:

Nasser Abu Hmeid

Um Nasser Abu Hmeid (Um Yusuf Abu Hmeid/Latifa Abu Hmeid) – Palestinian woman famous and admired in the PA for being the mother of 5 terrorist prisoners serving life sentences (4 of them serving multiple life sentences), and another whom the PA refers to as a "Martyr." Abu Hmeid is also called Khansa of Palestine, which refers to Al-Khansa from the earliest period of Islam who sent her four sons to battle and rejoiced when they all died as Martyrs. Abu Hmeid was honored by the PA in 2010 and 2015, and was chosen in 2011 to launch the PA’s statehood campaign with the UN. Her terrorist sons: Islam Yusuf Abu Hmeid, murdered 1 on May 24, 2018, and is serving life in prison and an additional 8 months; Muhammad Abu Hmeid, serving 2 life sentences and 30 years for involvement in terror attacks; Nasser Abu Hmeid, serving 7 life sentences and 50 years for murdering 7 Israeli civilians and 12 attempted murders; Nasr Abu Hmeid, serving 5 life sentences for involvement in two terror attacks in which 4 were murdered, and arms dealing; Sharif Abu Hmeid, serving 4 life sentences for involvement in terror attacks in which 4 were murdered; Abd Al-Mun'im Muhammad Yusuf Naji Abu Hmeid, murdered 1 on Feb. 13, 1994, and was killed by Israel on May 31, 1994.

Libel on medical abuse of Palestinian prisoners - The PA claims that Israel abuses Palestinian prisoners through medical neglect, medical experiments, and by intentionally infecting them with diseases. However, the International Red Cross regularly visits these prisoners and has not documented or accused Israel of any of these claims. Likewise, lists of demands occasionally issued by the prisoners during hunger strikes—such as during one in 2011—include no demands relating to these claims. PMW has documented prisoners talking about how they "lack nothing" in the prisons and that "the worst thing about Israeli prison" is riding in a prison vehicle that has no padding on the seat. When PMW contacted the Israeli Ministry of Health in 2007 regarding PA claims of medical experiments on prisoners, the ministry responded: "Clinical testing on prisoners in prison was never approved, never performed, and is most certainly not taking place at present."

Sabri Saidam also serves as Fatah Revolutionary Council Deputy Secretary and is the former PA Minister of Education and Higher Education.

Marwan Barghouti – Palestinian terrorist and member of the Palestinian Authority parliament who is serving 5 life sentences for orchestrating three shooting attacks in which 5 people were murdered: one attack on the Jerusalem-Maale Adumim road (June 12, 2001) in which Greek Orthodox monk Tsibouktsakis Germanus was murdered by terrorists Ismail Radaida and Yasser Ah'Rabai, another attack at a gas station in Givat Zeev near Jerusalem (Jan. 15, 2002) in which Yoela Hen was murdered by terrorists led by Mohammed Matla, and one shooting and stabbing attack at the Seafood Market restaurant in Tel Aviv (March 5, 2002) in which Eli Dahan, Yosef Habi, and Police Officer Sergeant-Major Salim Barakat, were murdered by terrorist Ibrahim Hasouna. When arrested by Israel in 2002, Barghouti headed the Tanzim (Fatah terror faction). After he was convicted and imprisoned, he was re-elected as a member of the Palestinian Authority parliament. On Dec. 4, 2016, he was elected to Fatah's Central Committee.

Karim Younes - Israeli Arab terrorist who kidnapped and murdered Israeli soldier Avraham Bromberg in 1980 together with his cousin Maher Younes. Younes was originally sentenced to life in prison, but Israeli President Shimon Peres reduced his sentence in 2012. Younes is serving a 40-year sentence. In May 2017 Younes was appointed by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to the Fatah Central Committee. Younes was released from prison on Jan. 5, 2023.

Maher Younes

The first Intifada - Palestinian wave of violence and terror against Israel 1987-1993, approximately 200 Israelis murdered

The second Intifada – PA terror campaign (2000-2005) in which more than 1,100 Israelis were murdered.

Muhammad Hussein also serves as Deputy Secretary-General and acting Secretary-General of the PLO Popular National Conference of Jerusalem.

Excerpt of an editorial by the official PA daily

Headline: “The Palestinian woman of the hour”

“Um Nasser Abu Hmeid (i.e., mother of terrorists responsible for at least 10 murders; see note below) is the Palestinian woman of the hour. [This is] not only because she nursed her children with the milk of pure heroism, honor, and patriotism until they became unequal knights in the paths of resistance, but also because of the faith and certainty that she strengthens within us that breaking the free Palestinian willpower is impossible…

The Arab culture must renew its examples of patience and endurance and carefully read the life story of Um Nasser who excels in this field. This is because her patience already approaches the patience of Al-Khansa - Tumadir bint ‘Amr ibn Al-Harith Al-Sulamiyah (see note below -Ed.). More than this, Um Nasser’s patience does not mix with breaking down in crying and self-pity over the bitterness of her fate. On the contrary, it is a patience of restraint and defiance, a patience of certain faith in the inevitable victory regardless of how long it is delayed, for she is waiting until the final hour without any complaint or doubt.

Of course, we understand that Um Nasser’s patience is not free of pain and sorrow, and perhaps one can even see the spark that shines in her eyes when she sees the empty beds of her sons in the rooms of her home, which the occupation emptied by arresting them. There is no doubt that this pain intensifies when she sees her precious Nasser [Abu Hmeid] (i.e., terrorist, responsible for murder of 7) sick with a serious illness while the Israeli prison guards are doing as they please with him and not providing him with proper medical treatment (sic., Abu Hmeid has been given treatment including chemotherapy and surgeries; see note below regarding PA libel on medical abuse of Palestinian prisoners), even though this is their responsibility according to all the humanitarian, legal, and moral regulations! …

Peace to you, merciful mother, the glory is yours and the pride is ours, and the history, story, and example are for Palestine.”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 12, 2022]

Posted text with video and song for Abu Hmeid: “O my brother Nasser [Abu Hmeid], gird yourself with endurance. Redemption is near. You are the free rebel. We are the prisoners, and you are the free one in spite of the chains. Gird yourself with endurance, my brother, against the pain, the sun will shine soon and you are the masked lion who defeated the enemy by using the trigger.”

Excerpt of a column by Muwaffaq Matar, Fatah Revolutionary Council member and regular columnist for the official PA daily

Headline: “Um Nasser Abu Hmeid (i.e., mother of terrorists responsible for at least 10 murders; see note below) – a school for resolve and willpower

“[Um Nasser Abu Hmeid - ] A Palestinian woman and mother of six heroes, of whom five are prisoners in the Israeli racist colonialist occupation’s detention camps: Jihad, Nasr, Sharif, Nasser, and Muhammad. The sixth, Abd Al-Mun’im, is a Martyr. She has received the titles ‘Khansa of Palestine’ and ‘oak tree of Palestine,’ and became a Palestinian national symbol. Palestinian national liberation movement leader and [PA] President of the Palestinian people Mahmoud Abbas kissed the head of the symbol of resolve and sacrifice, Latifa Muhammad Naji Abu Hmeid, who is known as Um Nasser Abu Hmeid…

These days, the racist Zionist occupiers are tormenting Um Nasser for the second time and slowly, after they already assassinated her son Abd Al-Mun’im. They are abandoning her eldest son, prisoner Nasser, as prey to lethal cancer that is similar to them in all its details and existence, as they are like a cancer… that infiltrates in order to kill whoever it can from among the living in order to spread and distribute death.”

[Official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Jan. 16, 2022]

Headline: “The [PA] Mufti: The family of prisoner Abu Hmeid is a school of sacrifice and resolve”

“[PA] Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories and preacher at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Muhammad Hussein emphasized that the cruel and aggressive actions of the occupation, whose goal is to negate our right to live, will not stop the resolve of our people and their strong willpower, and will not harm our determination.

He said this during a visit… to the camp of protest and solidarity with prisoner Nasser Abu Hmeid (i.e., terrorist, responsible for murder of 7), which was established in front of the Al-Amari refugee camp, and a visit to the home of ‘Khansa of Palestine’ Um Nasser Abu Hmeid (i.e., mother of terrorists responsible for at least 10 murders; see note below).

Sheikh Hussein praised prisoner Nasser and the resolve and composure of his family.

Headline: “Vigils supporting prisoner Nasser Abu Hmeid in Jenin, Aqabat Jaber refugee camp, and Istanbul”

“PLO Executive Committee member and Head of the [PLO] Human Rights and Civil Society Department Ahmed Tamimi demanded the intervention of the international bodies, and foremost among them the [UN] Security Council and [UN] Human Rights Council, in order to save the life of prisoner [Nasser] Abu Hmeid (i.e., terrorist, responsible for murder of 7) and to release him. In a statement yesterday [Jan. 14, 2022], Tamimi said that ‘Prisoner Abu Hmeid is being subjected to a pre-planned execution by the occupation authorities and the so-called Israeli Prison Service, which are insisting on leaving him in prison despite his severe medical condition’ (sic., see note below regarding PA libel on medical abuse of Palestinian prisoners).”

For 20 years you moved between the ruins of the [prison] cells until the guillotine of medical neglect (sic., see note below regarding PA libel on medical abuse of Palestinian prisoners) got you
As your gaunt body is chained to the bed of death, you resist until the end

Official PA TV, special broadcast of a procession of solidarity with terrorist prisoner and cancer patient Nasser Abu Hmeid, who was responsible for the murder of 7.

Fatah Revolutionary Council member Muhammad Al-Lahham: “We saw the united and mutual discourse between all the Palestinians on the topic of Hisham Abu Hawash (i.e., Islamic Jihad terrorist being held under administrative detention), and also today on the topic of commander Nasser Abu Hmeid (i.e., terrorist, responsible for murder of 7). This is because, Heaven forbid, in any case of difficult results of what may happen to Nasser Abu Hmeid – there will certainly be responses on the Palestinian street that I do not want to say that the occupation does not anticipate them, because the occupation anticipates them. Because the one who ignites a fire will be burned by it, and the occupation and its forces are the ones who are igniting the fire. There are 5,000 prisoners including sick people, children, and women – and we need to put a limit on these crimes. There is no medical neglect, there is premeditated medical execution that is being committed by the occupation forces and the so-called fascist racist Israeli Prison Service, which is behaving out of complete fascism with our male and female heroes in the occupation’s prisons (sic., see note below regarding PA libel on medical abuse of Palestinian prisoners). Therefore, the Palestinian street must- in terms of the discourse, in terms of responses, and politically speaking, it is led by His Honor [PA] President [Mahmoud Abbas] who again yesterday [Jan. 5, 2022], when he blessed Nasser Abu Hmeid and the male and female prisoners in the occupation’s prisons at the end of the [Fatah] Revolutionary Council meeting, gave clear instructions to the Revolutionary Council members and the district secretaries to prepare for what is coming, not only in terms of policy at the next [PLO] Central Council meetings and the measures that are likely to be taken against the occupation, but also in terms of on the ground – to confront not only the occupation soldiers, [but also] the settlers, and all of this despicable system – We pray and hope for the wellbeing of Nasser Abu Hmeid and the rest of the prisoners. We do not want our children as Martyrs, we want them alive. But if not, what will happen is as I told you – the one who ignites a fire will be burned by it…

Our position is clear, this cause, the prisoners’ cause, is a reason for national unity, a reason for holding on, a reason for confronting the occupation in all its forms, a reason for a confrontation of intifada, of struggle, and of sacrifice in all possible forms ‎(i.e., term used by Palestinians, which also refers to the use of violence and terror) given this occupation, which deserves it…

We are together with all the prisoners and bless all the prisoners – our prisoner Karim Younes (i.e., terrorist, murdered 1 together with an accomplice), this great hero who has already served 40 years in the occupation’s prisons; Marwan Barghouti (i.e., terrorist, orchestrated three attacks in which 5 were murdered); Walid Daqqa (i.e., terrorist, involved in murder of 1); Ibrahim Hamed (i.e., Hamas terrorist, responsible for murder of at least 53); national symbol Ahmad Sa’adat (i.e., head of PFLP terror organization); and all our male and female prisoners in the occupation’s prisons.”

Official PA TV reporter: “We say hello to released prisoner Abd Al-Fattah Doleh (i.e., terrorist, involved in murder of 1), a prisoner who experienced the occupation’s prisons and knows what medical neglect looks like and how the so-called Israeli Prison Service is committing medical neglect in order to premeditatedly kill the prisoners.”

Released terrorist prisoner Abd Al-Fattah Doleh: “The situation is very difficult. There is an attempt to murder Nasser Abu Hmeid and the sick prisoners. This is a policy of medical execution and not a policy of medical neglect, and it is being implemented to murder the prisoners in the occupation’s prisons.”

[Official PA TV, Jan. 5, 2022]

Headline: “Submitting an urgent request for the early release of prisoner Nasser Abu Hmeid”

“Yesterday [Jan. 6, 2022], the national forces, the [PLO] Commission of Prisoners’ [Affairs], the [PA-funded] Prisoners’ Club, and the prisoners and released prisoners’ union in the Bethlehem District organized a vigil of support for prisoner [Nasser] Abu Hmeid (i.e., terrorist, responsible for murder of 7) in front of the International [Committee of the] Red Cross (ICRC) headquarters.

Director of the [PA] National Library Issa Karake said: ‘This vigil comes to convey a call to the world and the international community that [Abu Hmeid] is entering a critical situation, while laying the responsibility on Israel for these medical crimes and the deliberate neglect against the prisoners for years in its prisons, which have become a place where illnesses spread (sic., see note below regarding PA libel on medical abuse of Palestinian prisoners).’

Karake noted that ‘The participants in the vigil demanded an international investigative committee on the medical situation of the prisoners in light of the spread of chronic illnesses among them and the adoption of a policy of slow death against them, which necessitates the human rights organizations and the international community to act and to force Israel to respect the prisoners’ rights according to the international and legal conventions.’”

Issa Karake also serves as PA Parliament Member and former Director of PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs.

Headline: “A rally supporting the prisoners boycotting the occupation’s courts in the center of Nablus”

“Yesterday afternoon, Thursday [Feb. 3, 2022], our people in the Nablus district participated in a vigil supporting the administrative detainees who are boycotting the Israeli occupation’s courts, and also the sick prisoners…

[Coordinator of National Forces and Factions in the Nablus District] Nasr Abu Jaish said in a speech by the faction coordination [organization] on behalf of Nablus’ factions, figures, and institutions: … ‘There is no prison or prison guard who will intimidate prisoner Nasser Abu Hmeid (i.e., terrorist, responsible for murder of 7) who is sick with cancer and is being subjected to intentional medical neglect (sic., see note below regarding PA libel on medical abuse of Palestinian prisoners). We, the people of Palestine, must all salute Khansa of Palestine [Um Nasser Abu Hmeid] (i.e., mother of terrorists responsible for at least 10 murders; see note below) for her resolve and patience. Nasser has sacrificed his life for the homeland, and we must tell Nasser that the Palestinian people is behind him throughout Palestine.’

He added: ‘The occupier and settler in Beita, Burin, and Beit Dajan must know: The land will burn underneath you for the sake of Nasser, the Martyrs, and the prisoners.’”
