The PLO faction 'DFLP' "firmly opposes" the PA’s decision to postpone their elections

“The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) emphasized its firm opposition to the decision to postpone the elections for the [PA] Parliament (Legislative Council) and therefore also the elections for the [PA] presidency and the Palestinian National Council (i.e., the legislative body of the PLO)…

PLO Executive Committee member and DFLP Political Bureau member Tayseer Khaled, who participated in the Palestinian leadership meeting that was held yesterday evening [April 29, 2021] at the [PA] presidential headquarters, said that this meeting was not the appropriate framework to make a decision of such significance and gravity. He added that it would have been more appropriate to return to the framework of the comprehensive and agreed upon national leadership, which is the Palestinian leadership that is composed of the PLO Executive Committee, the head of the Palestinian National Council, the secretary-generals of the factions, and a number of independent national figures…

Khaled noted that the decision to postpone the elections was a real shock to the Palestinian public opinion, which was counting on these triple elections constituting a beginning of the end of the [Fatah-Hamas] rift, a restoration of the unity of the Palestinian political rule, and a significant step on the path to building a pluralistic democratic rule.
