After months of doing the exact opposite, Ababs states that "it is necessary to respect the figures and symbols of the Arab states" who normalize ties with Israel

Headline: “A clarification from the [PA] Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates”

“The [PA] Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that the recent statements that the French magazine Le Point claimed were made by Ambassador of Palestine in France [Salman El-Herfi] are not at all consistent with the official Palestinian position (see note below for El-Herfi’s statements –Ed.).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release yesterday, Wednesday [Oct. 14, 2020], that these statements do not express anything other than the ambassador’s private opinions, and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will contact him to clarify the matter and determine the most appropriate way to deal with it, if this turns out to be correct.

It should be noted that since the UAE and the Kingdom of Bahrain decided to carry out normalization with the occupation state (see note below –Ed.), [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas’ instructions have been clear: along with clarifying the official Palestinian position regarding normalization, and along with opposing this step due to it contradicting the Arab Summit conference decisions and the Arab Peace Initiative… the president has emphasized that it is necessary to respect the figures and symbols of these [Arab] states and not harm them in any way, and that it is necessary to oppose harming our sister Arab states.

In his interview with the French magazine Le Point published in French on the magazine’s website on Oct. 12, 2020, PA Ambassador in France Salman El-Herfi said of UAE Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan: "He’s nothing but a little dictator who wants to make himself known, and he’s playing with fire.”
