UNRWA continues to provide 1.2 million Palestinian "refugees" in Gaza with regular food coupons
“UNRWA (UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) Spokesperson Adnan Abu Hasna said today, Monday [March 15, 2022], that UNRWA will not stop providing food coupons to refugees in the Gaza Strip…
In a statement, Abu Hasna noted that UNRWA is in a complicated financial crisis and said: ‘We do not know what will happen in the future after the crisis in Ukraine, but it is clear that the developments in the world market and the increase in the price of gas and wheat will impact all the humanitarian organizations in the world, and not just UNRWA.’
He explained that the provision of food coupons that more than 1.2 million Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip receive once every three months will not be stopped, and he noted that they are not talking about stopping the coupons, as they are the basis for the Palestinian refugees who constitute most of the residents of the Gaza Strip.
Abu Hasna said that the increase in the price of a number of food products has reached 30%, which caused an increase in the cost of the fixed [price] coupons for the beneficiaries from $20 million to $28 million every three months even before the crisis in Ukraine.”
