Hamas condemns the PA for spying on Palestinian citizens via social media as "offensive and a clear and severe violation of the law"

“Islamic Resistance Movement ‘Hamas’ Spokesman Hazem Qassem said that Hamas views the report published by the Facebook company on widespread acts of spying and blackmail that the Preventive Security Forces of the [Palestinian] Authority in Ramallah is carrying out against Palestinian citizens, politicians, members of the press, and journalists with great severity.

In a statement, a copy of which reached [the independent Palestinian news agency] Donia Al-Watan, he added that this behavior by the Security Forces in the West Bank, who are spying on citizens, is ‘offensive and constitutes a clear and severe violation of the law, and a blatant blow to the citizens’ privacy that the law guarantees.’

Qassem said: ‘The Forces’ actions in the West Bank that were exposed in Facebook’s report contradict the rules of political and national activity. They are inconsistent with the national atmosphere that needs to exist, especially when we are at the height of [PA] elections.’”
