Presidency warns Israeli escalation would further exacerbate tensions, destabilize region

RAMALLAH, Thursday, March 31, 2022 – The Presidency today warned that the current Israeli escalation would further exacerbate tensions and destabilize the region.

The Presidency condemned in a press statement the current Israeli serious escalation, namely storming Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israeli lawmaker Itamar Ben Gvir, backed by Israeli police and settlers, besides to the killing of two Palestinians and injuring 14 others, including three serious injuries, in a predawn raid in Jenin district.

It said that Israeli provocations, taking the form of ongoing raids, extrajudicial killings and settler attacks, would plunge the region into the abyss of heightened tensions while pointing that such Israeli deliberate escalatory and inflammatory policies and actions were not consistent with the efforts towards to ensure calm during the fasting month of Ramadan and other religious feasts.

It held the Israeli government fully responsible for this escalation along with its implications as it called on the international community to take immediate action rein in Israel and hold it accountable for its crimes.

It further called on the US administration to halt the Israeli government’s policy that pushes the situation towards explosion.”
