Fatah Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub: “Good morning to all those present. We are meeting today [March 18, 2022] with [marathon] participants from 87 states, including [representatives of] the European Union (EU)…
In this race we are conveying a message to the world: The time has come to confront this fascist racist occupation. The time has come to end the expressions of ethnic cleansing, which our people is dealing with in Jerusalem and all of Palestine. The time has come to tell Israel and those who defend Israel that the international legitimacy is not divided – there is no [enforcement of] international legitimacy in Ukraine and [on the other hand] there is support and defense for the settlement, terror, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing of this occupation. The international legitimacy is one, and it must be implemented against the ugly face of Nazism, which is this Zionism and this racist fascist occupation.
From here, the gate of the Church of the Nativity, the birthplace of the messiah [Jesus], the prophet of peace, love, and hope, we say to the world: Show this occupation a red card. And this race, and the participation of more than 10,000 men, women, and children… We say: It is our right to live freely and to move freely on the land of Palestine, by virtue of the international legitimacy that is being implemented in one place, and in another place [they say:] “Allah is watching over you, do what you want” …
We will not leave Palestine… We are deeply rooted here, and all the options are open before us. But we view sport, this marathon, football, and all the popular and non-violent expressions as one of the aspects of the struggle. However, we will not wave a white flag, and we also will not flee from the city. Rather we say to the world: We will not suffer alone, and this occupation will either leave or will pay the price. As long as this occupation is continuing its fascism it will not enjoy and will not live in security.
And we say to the EU representative: You are coming and punishing us for a text in [school]books because you like or dislike a word, and you do not want to see the fascism, the racism, and the official terror that the occupation state is implementing against us.
Do not think that you will suffocate us, not in an economic blockade, and do not think that you will break our will in any way, other than recognizing our right to live freely… And we hope that the message of the messiah [Jesus], the message of Bethlehem, the message of Jerusalem, and of the entire Palestinian people, and this participation of 87 states from the entire world – that the world will listen to it, and will understand that the time has come for the new Nazis who are working to eliminate the Palestinian people to leave or to be confronted. Thank you to all the participants and visitors.”
Jibril Rajoub also serves as Head of the PLO Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the Palestinian Football Association, Chairman of the Palestine Olympic Committee, and Chairman of the Palestinian Scout Association (PSA).
