PA Daily slams Arab League Secretary for "swimming in the rancid waters of normalization" with Israel
Excerpt of an op-ed by Omar Hilmi Al-Ghoul, regular columnist for the official PA daily
Headline: “You are a clerk, not a leader”
“At a time when the rulers of the UAE and Bahrain are hurrying into cheap normalization with the colonialist State of Israel (see note below –Ed.)… Arab League Secretary-General [Ahmed Aboul Gheit] took a suspicious position that works hand in hand with the arbitrary move [made by the UAE and Bahrain] when he refused to accede to the Palestinian call to convene a special meeting of the council of foreign ministers of the Arab states…
And not only this – last (sic., this) Sept. 9 [2020], he also participated with the leaders of the Arab governments that support the UAE’s normalization with Israel in dissolving and thwarting the Palestinian resolution proposal opposing the UAE’s move and demanding condemnation of it…
In addition to what was mentioned above, the high-ranking clerk Ahmed Aboul Gheit did not attempt to hide his scandal and the fact that he is swimming in the rancid waters of normalization, but rather he deviated from the limitations of his functional role when he announced… that the shameful agreements of the UAE and Bahrain ‘stopped the annexation of the Palestinian territories.’ …
It would be fitting for the clerk Aboul Gheit to stay silent, because he knows that his every word is credited against him. He also did not speak on a whim, as all of his positions and statements are an echo of the voice of the Arab leaders who are subordinate to the American-Israeli dictates. In addition to this, not for a single moment has he fulfilled the role of political leader – firstly, because he has no personal charisma; secondly, because he is unfit to lead; and thirdly, because he has agreed to fulfill the role of the junior clerk who is subordinate and receives orders…
Out of a concern that you will get more and more entangled, I advise you [Aboul Gheit] to quit politics so that you will preserve part of your dignity, and the positive part of your record as a functionary, if there is any.”
