He also expressed sorrow over sister Sudan joining the caravan of normalization with Israel (see note below –Ed.), and said that the Arab normalization is tantamount to ‘the downfall of the century,’ which we did not want our brothers to get entangled in. He emphasized that the Palestinian position is based on the Arab Peace Initiative and the decisions of all the Arab Summit conferences being the source of authority on everything related to the Arab relations with Israel. Shtayyeh emphasized: ‘Only the Palestinian people, and no one else, has the right to speak on its behalf and determine its fate. Only it, and no one else, has the key to peace in the region.’
He added: ‘With each state that joins the caravan of normalization an additional brick collapses in the rickety Arab wall of support, and the Israeli weapons arsenal is filling up with new ammunition that is killing our people and expropriating their legitimate rights.The fact that Israel is flying in the skies of Palestine towards the Arabs does not negate our existence on the land.’ Shtayyeh described Israel’s signing of normalization agreements with a number of Arab states as going fishing in the Dead Sea.”
