"The EU is interested in preserving the Palestinian identity in Jerusalem" states PA TV
Official PA TV program European Stories, on EU funding for the renovation of historical structures in the Old City of Jerusalem
Official PA TV host: “The European Union (EU) attaches great importance to renovating historical structures and preserving them, because they are testimony to ancient cultures. This importance also includes the structures in the states that are friends of the EU, including Palestine. Now, let me tell you the story of Europe and Palestine and the cooperation on renovating the historical structures in Jerusalem.
Jerusalem, Bait Al-Maqdis, the city of peace – many are the names of this noble city, whose history goes back more than 5,000 years, which indicates the depth of the history that spreads out over many eras.
A city that was crowned on the royal throne of beauty, culture, rootedness, and nobility, and it is also the heart of the Palestinian cause.
The EU – with its 27 member states – has a clear position regarding the Palestinian cause and they place it at the top of the EU’s foreign policy priorities, and their position supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in the 1967 borders, including Jerusalem.
Therefore, the EU is interested in preserving the Palestinian identity in Jerusalem, and every year it sets aside a budget of approximately 14 million euros to support a variety of initiatives in different sectors and fields – tourism, economy, and development. Some of the support goes to renovation and infrastructure for the schools and structures that are in the Old City [of Jerusalem]…
It is true, our story for this episode has concluded, but Jerusalem will remain at the top of the EU’s priorities and interests.”
