Released terrorist prisoner: PA must learn from the Shalit deal and do more to release prisoners
In October 2011, the Israeli government agreed to release 1,027 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prison in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who had been held hostage by Hamas for more than 5 years.
Statement by former prisoner Irena Sarahneh, who was released as part of the Shalit deal:
Headline: "Bethlehem welcomes its released prisoners with great pomp"
"Irena [Sarahneh, a female prisoner released in the Shalit deal], who served ten out of the twenty years of her sentence, said: 'My message today, as I enjoy freedom, is directed to all the institutions dealing with prisoners' affairs, as well as to the [Palestinian] Ministry of Prisoners' Affairs: Do not leave the prisoners on their own; you must strengthen the activities showing solidarity with them. We must learn from what Israel did for a soldier who was captive, [Gilad] Shalit.'"
Note: Irena Sarahneh - drove a suicide bomber to an attack in the Israeli city Rishon LeZion in 2002, in which 2 were killed and dozens injured.
