Event "under the auspices of Abbas" mourning Israeli independence delegitimizes Israel's existence

“Yesterday [May 23, 2022] at the YMCA halls in Gaza City the PLO Department of Refugee Affairs, the Palestinian Center for Culture and Innovation and the YMCA launched the national operetta and the Palestinian art exhibition ‘We Will Surely Return,’ under the auspices of [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas and with the participation of 130 artists.

Present at the launch was PLO Executive Committee member and Head of the [PLO] Department of Refugee Affairs Ahmad Abu Houli…

Abu Houli emphasized that the PLO will remain the safety valve on everything concerning maintaining the Palestinian rights and national principles, and on everything concerning defending Jerusalem and the right of return against the plots against them. He noted that the region will not enjoy stability as long as the Israeli occupation continues to crouch on the Palestinian land and as long as the right of return is not realized.

He explained that holding the Palestinian art exhibition is one of the activities to mark the 74th anniversary of Palestine’s Nakba (i.e., “the catastrophe,” the Palestinian term for the establishment of the State of Israel), and he noted that it is being held under the title ‘We Will Surely Return’ to emphasize that return is a sacred right that does not expire and that we will necessarily return to Palestine.

The following images, posted on the Facebook page of the Palestinian Center for Culture and Innovation on May 23, 2022, show the exhibition.

The image shows a stage at the exhibit with a poster in the background. On the poster is written that the event is held under the auspices of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. In the bottom right corner of the poster is the PA map of “Palestine” that presents all of Israel together with the PA areas as “Palestine,” with the words “We Will Surely Return” on it together with a large key representing the Palestinian refugees’ “right of return” and the Palestinian flag.

The image shows two works of art. The artwork on the right features the PA map of “Palestine” with “Palestine” written on it in Arabic and next to it in English. The artwork on the left shows a fist holding a key representing “the right of return,” along with the words “Nakba” and “We Will Surely Return.”

The image shows a performance in which a boy is holding a large key with “We Will Necessarily Return” written on it.

The image shows works of art, including three containing the PA map of “Palestine.”
