"The Palestinian leadership strongly rejects and condemns the agreement to normalize the relations between the Israeli occupation state and the Kingdom of Bahrain"

Official PA TV News

Official PA TV newsreader: The Palestinian leadership strongly rejects and condemns the tripartite agreement between the US, Bahrain, and Israel to normalize the relations between the Israeli occupation state and the Kingdom of Bahrain (see note below –Ed.), and views it as a betrayal of Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Palestinian cause, and it also views this step as support for legitimizing the occupation’s despicable crimes against our Palestinian people, at the same time that the occupation state is continuing to control the Palestinian lands and annex them through military force, and is working intensively to Judaize Jerusalem, control the sites that are holy to Islam and Christianity, and commit crimes against the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian leadership views this step with great severity, because it destroys the Arab Peace Initiative and the decisions of the Arab summits, Islamic summits, and the UN.The [PA] leadership has rejected this step that the Kingdom of Bahrain has carried out, and demands that it recant it immediately, due to the great damage that it causes the Palestinian people’s basic national rights and the joint Arab activity. The Palestinian leadership renewed its call on the Arab sister states to adhere to the Arab Peace Initiative as it was conveyed in 2002, and called on the international community to adhere to international law and the UN resolutions.

The Palestinian leadership reemphasized that it has not authorized and will not authorize anyone to speak on its behalf, and it also notes that peace and stability in the region will be realized only through the end of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian and Arab lands without exception, and the Palestinian people achieving its independence in its sovereign state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and a resolution of the refugees’ cause based on UN Resolution 194 (see note below –Ed.). Whoever thinks that these concessions at the expense of the Palestinian people will serve peace, security, and stability in the region is deceiving himself.”

UN Resolution 194 (Chapter 11, Dec. 11, 1948) states that "refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return." Palestinian leaders argue this means that all Arabs who left Israel during the war (hundreds of thousands) and their descendants (a few million) have a "right of return" to Israel. Israel argues that the resolution only calls for a limited return and only under certain conditions, especially focusing on the words "wishing to return... and live at peace with their neighbors."
