“Abbas has signed off on a decision to pay full salaries to Palestinian prisoners and released prisoners”

Headline: “Abu Bakr to Safa: The [PA] president has signed off on paying full salaries to [Palestinian] prisoners”

“Director of [the PLO] Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners’ Affairs Qadri Abu Bakr reported this morning, Thursday [Jan. 14, 2021], that [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas has signed off on a decision to pay full salaries to [Palestinian] prisoners who have [already] received 50% of their salary…

He emphasized that the decision includes prisoners within the [Israeli] prisons in addition to released prisoners, and the number exceeds 900 Palestinian prisoners.

In the Gaza Strip there are approximately 900 released prisoners who have been receiving half salaries for three years and 48 prisoners within the prisons who are receiving the same rate.

The number of released prisoners whose salaries were completely stopped stands at approximately 400 prisoners, along with 80 prisoners from within the prisons, and they are all from the Gaza Strip.

For more than two months released prisoners in the Gaza Strip have been holding weekly and half-weekly protests, which have even included hunger strikes, in a demand [for the PA] to pay their salaries in full.”
