Israel is the reason for all wars in the Middle East, says PA daily op-ed

Excerpt of a column by Bassem Barhoum, regular columnist for the official PA daily

Headline: “The Middle East – a weapons testing ground”

The writer claims that in all the wars in the Middle East since 1948, new weapons were tested by Israel, the US, the Soviet Union, and others, which caused failed states in the region -Ed.

“The problem with all this is that this reality is continuing, and it does not appear that it will end in the foreseeable future. Looking deeper, the historical reasons for what happened and is still happening are Israel’s existence in the region. This existence brought about the outbreak of conflicts and created new conflicts, due to the wars that were and still are taking place in the region, and due to it being turned into a testing ground for all kinds of weapons. This explains the powerful countries’ lack of desire to find a just solution for the Palestinian problem, and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict being left burning, as the [Middle] East is not [just] an arena for the political games of the nations, but also for all kinds of war games.”
