[Palestinian membership in UNESCO] gives the Palestinian people and its political and cultural leadership an opportunity to protect directly the Palestinian heritage, antiquities, structures and culture within the international organization. It will prevent the Israeli occupation and aggression state from continuing its forging and fabrication of truth and of history, by attributing the antiquities, religious sites in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Hebron, and the heritage of the Palestinian people in different areas, to itself. It will cause [Israel] to think a thousand times before claiming falsely that any of the antiquities on the historical land of Palestine – including [the land] upon which the State of Israel stands – belongs to the Jews. Even the alleged Temple has no basis on Palestinian land, according to Israeli archaeologists themselves.
