Abbas and Erekat kiss and shake hands with released prisoners

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, Member of the Fatah Central Committee, PA chief negotiator Saeb Erekat and Minister of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Karake in meeting with prisoners: Othman Musleh, Abd Al-Latif Shuqeir, Hassan Salama, Mahmoud Al-Ubeidi Jaradat, and two other prisoners.

Note: Hundreds of the released prisoners were convicted on charges of murder and terror offenses.
Othman Musleh Abu Naji was serving a life sentence for placing a bomb and throwing a grenade in 1982. In October 2011, Musleh was released as part of the Shalit prisoner exchange deal brokered between the Israeli government and Hamas. In that deal, Israel released 1,027 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who had been held hostage by Hamas for more than 5 years.
Hassan Salama was serving a life sentence for preparing and placing explosives in 1982. In October 2011, Salama was released as part of the Shalit prisoner exchange deal brokered between the Israeli government and Hamas. In that deal, Israel released 1,027 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who had been held hostage by Hamas for more than 5 years.
