Headline: “The PLO Department of Refugee Affairs and the [PA] Ministry of Education held the award ceremony of the ‘Renewing Hope’ competition to instill knowledge about the Balfour Promise (i.e., Declaration) in the students of Palestine”

“Yesterday [Nov. 3, 2022], under the auspices of [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas, the PLO Department of Refugee Affairs and the [PA] Ministry of Education held a ceremony to honor the winners of ‘The Nakba and the Ominous Balfour Promise in the Eyes of the Students of Palestine – Renewing Hope’ competition (i.e., the Nakba is “the catastrophe,” Palestinian term for the establishment of the State of Israel) at the Al-Kasaba Theater in Ramallah.

The cultural competition, which was designated for school students in the northern and southern districts (i.e., the West Bank and Gaza Strip), came as part of the events to mark the 105th anniversary of the ominous Balfour Promise and the events of the Nakba of Palestine that has been continuing for 74 years…

PLO Executive Committee member [and Palestinian Liberation Front Secretary-General] Dr. Wasel Abu Yusuf emphasized the significance of the department of refugee affairs continuing the activity to inculcate the rights in the minds, intellect, and hearts of the children and the coming generations until the realization of the right and the revocation of this ominous promise and its consequences on Palestine and its people.”

The Balfour Declaration of Nov. 2, 1917 was a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Baron Rothschild stating that "His Majesty's government views with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people." In 1922, the League of Nations adopted this and made the British Mandate "responsible for putting into effect the declaration," which led to the UN vote in favor of partitioning Mandatory Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state in 1947. In response, Britain ended its mandate on May 15, 1948, and the Palestinian Jews, who accepted the Partition Plan, declared the independent State of Israel. The Palestinian Arabs rejected the plan and together with 7 Arab states attacked Israel, in what is now known as Israel's War of Independence.

Palestinian Liberation Front (PLF) – A terror organization and member of the PLO. The PLF is headed by Secretary-General Wasel Abu Yusuf who is also a member of the PLO Executive Committee. The PLF has been responsible for numerous terror attacks, including the hijacking of an Italian cruise ship in 1985, in which one Jewish hostage in a wheelchair, Leon Klinghoffer, was shot, and then thrown overboard. The US has listed the PLF as a terror organization.
